Did you really wait in all day? ... I rang you yesterday but no answer.
Well, I had no plans, so the Porker got a polish, the garage got a tidy, booked a holiday, and my ar5e got a scratch.

Fairly productive day as it 'appens.

Another time perhaps?

It is, but was purely used to power phone charger/ipod/radar detector etc. The lighter was left in as it look a lot better than an open socket!

Here is mine, not very good pics but you get the gist.

I did have heater and fan switches on the dash but since fitting air con they are now not needed. I need suggestions for the two holes in the dash!

Alcantara rooflining:

Hi Lucky,

Did you make a plate for your roof lining? I want to do something similar on mine... If so did you use ali sheet or fibreboard? Did you finish it before the door seals or run underneath?

Cheers,
Mart

Mart, no plate. Justa roll of Alcantara and contact adhesive. The material goes under the edge trim and glued to the cut edge of the aperture (not all the way round as the edge trim won't stretch open that far). My roll of material wasn't wide enough to do the 'arms' needed to come down the A-pillars, so I double stitched these on with Mum's sewing machine.....which I'm rather stoked with!

Jeremy....really like the look you've gone for......simple but neat and looks really well executed.....one quick question about your stack display....I've gone the same route and whilst I appreciate the details on Stig's build site wondered whether you have any other good tips etc for the install?? Thanks, Simon

If you haven't done your dash cowl yet then make sure you give it as much of a 'baseball cap' peek as possible. The dash is well forward with respect to the windscreen top and you get a lot of glare on the Stack. I used the factory cowl and extended it by about 15mm but it could do with being even more.

Thanks Steve...good advice - haven't stated the build yet.......delivery from factory this Friday!! Like you I opted for the factory stack pod......looks like one of those little jobs that I can do in 'parallel' to the main build up and get out of the way early......

Hi Simon,
This is the first time I've done anything like this so I am far from an expert.

The hardest and most important part of getting it looking right was getting the alcantara on nicely with no wrinkles, lumps & bumps etc.
Get an even amount of glue on the pod/dash as well as the cloth and let them go tacky before touching together.
Then it's just a case of applying it a tiny bit at a time and if not spot on get it off again straight away before it's too late to have another shot.
A second pair of hands would definitely have been a bonus for the dash .

My Stack POD fitted really nice and tight into the dash once the Alcantara was on both so that is down to Ultima rather than me.

The switch panel was made from a sheet of Reverie carbon which is very nice stuff and easy to work with.

Like most of the build the work is quite simple, you just need to take lots and lots of time to make sure that each little step is spot on.

I also spent many hours staring at Stig's site as well as James Crewes' so that was a big help smile

Wow - some neat interiors there! I think the interior is what makes or breaks the car as it's all too easy to do a sub-standard job. My plan is alcantara on floor, sides and roof with leather dash, seats and doors. All black (of course). All I have to do is persuade the missus to do it for me, as my skills with fabrics are pretty non-existant :-(

BTW, I noticed a couple of cars using the ford wiper/lights/indicator stalks. I'm about to buy a set for my GTR, but have one question:

Do I need to extend the steering column in order to get enough room between the dash and the steering wheel for the stalks? Are there any SVA rules I need to keep in mind when fitting the stalks? (damn, that was 2 questions!)

Cheers,
Andrew.

Hi Andrew - simple answer, yes you will. You'll need about 30-40mm IIRC depending on your setup. Should be no SVA issues (they are type approved in a Ford after all). I think you just need a crush mount for the steering wheel for SVA.
