I have been contemplating taking off the front splitter on my GTR to ease driving in my town. I don't want to start scraping the front of the car when I am going up curbs by my driveway etc... Trouble is I feel lke if I unbolt the front splitter that the car would have no bracing for the front panels. Anybody have a solution or does everyone have reinforced brackets on their cars?

A standard car does not have a splitter so taking yours off will be fine.

The alternative is to lift the ride height... much less work.

I run with the splitter and it touches the ground every now and then. Just replace it whenit gets damaged.

When SSS supplied and fitted a front splitter to the GTW I was a little disappointed at first because although technically it is bang on, being formed out of plywood, it looked a little 'bonco' and DIY. I have done little over 600 miles in the car so far and the splitter is wrecked. I am now glad that it is wood as replacing it is a fairly simple and cost effective job.

Forgot to say that a splitter has little or no real advantage on a road car but does look the part wink

mines wood as well and yes it now looks worn as its bottomed out a few times, but i would not remove completely as it looks the part... just replace it when damaged in ply... id rather damage wood than paintwork

I disagree- braking from over 100mph with the front splitter on is significantly more stable and you can stand harder on the brakes. I am sure the same applies to a lesser extent at motoway speeds. However they are not practicle for speed humps.

With std body I wished I had a Splitter, when I hit a Rabbit and ran over a Dead Fox in the road it cracked my F/G, if I had a Wood splitter it would have spread the load across a wider area and would not a caused as much damage to the F/G.... So yes maybe more scrapes car park Kurbs ect if you leave it on but unexpected high speed obstacles are more of a worry for me....

PS There is more than 1 options now for Hyd Lifting front suspension, what shocks do you use ??
I know a Man with a Lift kit to fit Nitron Shocks now... Raises the nose about 2" more...takes under 5 sec and drops in 1...

Clive is referring to SSS over here in sunny Stoke Golding.
I was there yesterday ( after going to the FoD ) and saw the kit in operation, very clever but as Clive says, it will only work for Nitron shocks ( at the moment wink )

Frans seems quite heavy, 20lb per wheel? SSS's is about 20lb for the full set up?

I was just made aware of this thread..thanks Crafty.
The complete kit weighs less than 20lbs...and one pump will do all four corners...just add two rear lift collars..
This system will work with ANY coilover shock

i have the RCR lift kit (front only) and works well...if you can get it on and off a trailer without wood planks its a result....
