Ultima GTR LMP "The re-build"
Discussion

They make them out of ballistic nylon - they deform but don't rip or split. They will need a rigid container to sit in. The other point to note is they are lifed and don't last indefinitely
The FIA regulations require the fuelcell to sit in a rigid container. I'd rather have it fly away from the car in an accident. The "lifed" is for racing purposes too, like requirement to replace harnass, helmets, fire protection, seats, etc, every 3 years or so required by the FIA. All invented to keep the money flowing.
I've had long discussions about these items, and for the road/trackday use, they will last forever.
The mentioned 3500quid is for two tanks, one left and one right.
If you oreder more the cost will drop fast, since you need to pay for the molds too.
I'm done talking about it. Too stupid to put money before your life.

Just a foot note Fuel has a very high ignition temperature, and dropped onto a hot manifold it will evaporate before catching fire, but a spark is another matter... The Brake fluid has the lowest ign temperature of all the car fluids.
My tank has a double skinned wall between the cabin and the tank pod, and the engine is a semi stressed member of the chassis so very unlikely the engine will ever hit it. Even on a rear impact the gearbox would prob be destroyed but the 1" thick 6061 ally front eagle plate the gearbox is bolted to and the 6 CDS tubes that connect it to the cabin struture would be way stronger than the gearbox and would most definalty stop the engine from forward travel.
Even if the engine did go forward it would still have to travel though another 38mm tube thats infront of it to get to the tank enclosure.
Yes there will always be that element of risk but isn't there in anything you build ?

Thanks for all the fuel thoughts! As we build this for Gumball we are actually doing both to maximize the fuel capacity and range , one fuel tank in the pods and keeping the normal ones. ;-) After GB we plan om making a side pod solution...
Full speed in the garage! Lights took forever to get in there but now we are up to speed again!

I guess its about time for a little update as Gumball is only 19 days away! Tokan who is building the car has been in the garage 24/7 for the past two months but its starting to pay off!
Say hello to the re-named Rebellion R1k. (ex Ultima GTR but as its only the windscreen left it deserved a new name;-) !)
The car is done machine wise now all we have to do is fit the last parts of the body. Its going to an insanely wide crazy little machine!!!
More pics to come in the next week!
Gumball here we come!
