If that scheme is cut .. will reduced forex inflow to malaysia.

I live in Malaysia, I have a talent visa, which I may change to MMH2 in a few years. My understanding is that there has been an ongoing disagreement between the Tourism Ministry and the Immigration Department about MMH2 for the last few years. The visa is administered by the Tourism department and they then present the immigration with no choice but to issue the Visa.
The Tourism ministry deal with agents, which of course raises the accusation of corruption. There are questions about people not having medical insurance etc but still getting visa's.
Apparently its this dispute that has come to a head. I'm hearing that the visa will 'transfer' to the immigration department and be back on line in a few months.
Same thing happened with the talent pass, they set up a company called Talent Corp, to administer the visa, they are forbidden by statue for dealing with agents, but in the early days it was all agents. now application is on line and they can only met and talk to the applicant, that makes sense because you have to apply for that visa in country and you need to have been resident on a work permit for some years. I did my own and it was a pain sat waiting for appointment you were bombarded by agents even in the waiting area.

interesting - I spoke to an agent in KL about a year or so back about MM2H ... he wanted 9000 RM for just doing the application .. ( I would still need to provide all the docs and references ) - then he said it may take 12++ months anyway even with him.The Tourism ministry deal with agents, which of course raises the accusation of corruption. so I could not see how it was worth 9000 RM just for someone to apply on my behalf with what seemed like little added value and no guarantee of either success or fast processing.
will be interesting to see how this pans out.
meanwhile I am starting a new job in SG and may end posted to Manila

Alfaman, The Sarawak state government have just announced that they are not suspending the MM2H. scheme,, they now have SMM2H, you need to apply through the Sarawak State Tourism, Ministry.
interesting .. a colleague of mine who had been living in JB was saying during COVID .. all MM2H visa holders were blocked from entering malaysia .. even with a 10 year multi entry visa !!!!So good luck to MY for duping ( sorry .. selling ) and more MM2H or SMM2H visas in the future .. as the residency status seems worthless .. ? has no legal traction
Alfaman, You are right, all visa holders were prevented from entering, in March, the restrictions are being lifted slowly based on the Visa type and the nationality of the holder. I agree completely they have seriously undermined the value of the MMH2 visa, I know people who have their only home here and could not enter, and lived in hotels or with relatives in UK.
But if you were in the country, like my wife and I0 there was no refusal of right to stay, none of the visa's give you a right to unlimited permeant residency in country, even people with permeant resident visa's were refused entry. Personally I've always understood this and retained a house in the UK, despite being resident in Malaysia for 23 years.

to be fair, if i remember correct, the proper name for the visa is Malaysia My Second Home ??? However, agreed, if they have offered a full time residency visa with significant financial commitments tied to it and possibly jobs too, then its pretty poor form block the visa holders from entry to their "resident" country.
