Just watched a mend it Mark video on youtube where he repairs a £25k pre amp and immediately thought of this thread...
I watched that video as well. That phono preamp is massively over engineered.

And they had to use copper PCBs for screening because it was built into a perspex case.

I have the Flare Calmers and really like them. I'm less convinced by some of their other stuff - "different" is very often heard as "better".
I tried the Calmers a couple of years back and couldn't get on with them at all. I did get a refund though which was great.

Regarding authenticity, I've had emails from TE and it matches his style/formatting
Mend it Mark opens with "I've been told I won't be able to fix it" (I don't know who told him that but see below).

Additionally, in the video there is a written note on top of the preamp "... trashed in transit to us" (but of course we don't know who 'us' is / are but presumed to be Tom Evans).

From what I've read, the preamp was sent to Tom Evans for repair, believed to have been damaged in the post en route to them (TE) and then the owner asked that 'Mend it Mark' repair it, and the comment about not being able to fix it was from TE himself.

This I belive is a fairly accurate account of events.

Why don’t most of the pictures display?

It looks like it was made, and has not been updated since the early nineties!
Most of the images appear to be missing from the server for some reason.

The code looks pretty ancient as well, so your early nineties theory is likely to be correct.

This popped up on my Google News feed earlier, quite comical, you can disable UNUSED ports to free up processing power for better audio quality!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder how they got it to weigh so much?

Also - Melco - I believe the have featured in these pages previously.

I wonder why the company name change though? Perhaps because snake oil doesn't sell that well....
