Placed my order... no brainer for £1.50 a month extra.

Install date March 4.
Can you verify
1. One off cost
2. Total monthly cost
3. What package and any extras you have sky go unlimited calls highest level fibre etc.

So that we can all compare and ensure we get at least the same deal as you have negotiated.
No negotiation - that's the cost when I ordered it on line.

1. Off cost £149 (Silver, mini, installation)
2. Total monthly £131.15 (paying £15 less than this for another 9 months through a deal on fiber)
3. Currently have HD/multi room/fims/sports/broadband (35mb fiber, unlimited)/phone line

So assuming s higher rate tax payer that's £2.6k gross salary just to pay for it?

Sadly mine is £120 and I'm thinking hmm this is getting to be a fairly hefty chunk now

Mine is coming out higher than that.

£149 one off
£124.90/mth (discounted £10/mth to £114.90 due to half price fibre.)

It would be an extra £9/mth for me to add movies back on taking it to £133.90/mth

The breakdown is:

Sky Q Silver - £79.50
Fibre - £20 (discounted to £10)
SkyTalk Anytime - £8
Line Rental - £17.40

if you have the legacy HD pack does this change eliminate that so in future if you drop sports you lose F1?

I've never thought of it as a percentage of my gross.

It works out to be less than 3% of my monthly net, and annually, just over half of the membership fees at my last golf club.

Yes, it's a lot of money, but I watch a lot of films and a lot of sport.

For me - with kids - tv while they are up is Cbbies or maybe the odd Disney film. I don't go to the other room to watch other stuff with them in another.

But with the sports last few years I've not watched one full F1 race in fact hardly saw any coverage at all. I don't watch football, if golf is on late I'll have a glance, skiing is always on he free Eurosport.
Movies we don't have the chance to go to the cinema so generally watch films probably no more than 4 a month if that on average.
Box sets we do watch a lot.

I like the sky exclusive series so I'm stuck with them but struggling to justify the merit of some parts which I frankly get minuscule benefit out of.
The cost could in effect pay for the Mrs fuel all year tax ins VED and servicing plus..

That said I'd put money on it I'll be picking up Skyq silver very soon!!

No kids, and my wife has been working in the US for the last 8 months (and likely to be there for the foreseeable future), so I'm home alone a lot and tend to watch quite a bit of TV, especially in the winter.

We did that that a couple of years ago, had F1 through the HD pack and added SkySports for the Ashes, when we dropped SkySports we lost the F1 Channel, That is why we have Sky Sports! Bloody expensive for non football fans. Would rather you have non football and football channel options.

I read in one of the reports that powerline networking won't be available at launch, anyone know if this is true? I've read other reports that say it is available.

I wonder, when they say it's built in, do they mean there will be just three cables to the Sky Q silver box (power + 2 from LNB)?

I'm getting all excited just about the number of cables I can remove from my setup (which I only spent a fortune installing a month ago Grrrr), geek!

This is correct. When powerline networking is ready you will need power and 2 LNB connections although now you could still just use wifi to connect the box and have the same amount of cables and any mini boxes just need power and HDMI.

This might answer a few queries - http://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Sky-Q/Sky-q-cost-with-...

Sky said:
Any offers to your main TV subscriptions will not be carried over. For example 50% off Family Bundle / Variety Bundle / Original Bundle.

The following will be carried over:-
Existing broadband offers - for example 50% off Sky Broadband Unlimited
Existing Sky Movies and Sky Sports offers - for example 25% off Sky Sports
Existing Line Rental offers - for example 35% off Sky Talk
Price hold offers
Legacy HD with the F1 channel.

For the first wave of installs this will be for Sky Broadband customers - if you've managed to place an order and you are not a Sky Broadband customer you will likely receive a cancellation shortly.

My brother in law tried to order yesterday and got turned down as he's locked in to a BT broadband contract.

So it turns out I'm actually paying £123.15pcm currently

Virgin big kahuna plus movies 12 month contract
£17.99x12
£29.50x6
£59x6
Total £746.88 or £62.24pcm plus it has multi room and 200mb fibre not 23....

Or Virgin big kahuna plus movies plus sport 12 month contract
£17.99x12
£45x6
£90x6
Total £1,025.88 or £85.49 PCM plus it has multi room and 200mb fibre.

So if I ditch sport - but I'd still get free Eurosport on Virgin? Then I save £730.92 a year.....
Or go for the incl Sport plus BT sport and I save £451.92

Am I missing something here are sky pulling my pants down putting ice on my Johnson and then laughing out loud.

I may have read this wrong but does anyone know if SKY Q will work without having to have sky broadband opposed to Plusnet broadband that I currently have ?

Do you get all the same channels on Virgin as Sky?

Like for like, when the start up discounts drop out you're at £108/month vs £130/month... so £264 a year better off.

Personally, I'd happily pay that not to have a Virgin box. I worked away from home for 2.5 years, and the apartment my company rented for me had a virgin box... it was irritatingly slow to change channels, crashed all the time, had rubbish interfaces, an illogical controller... I absolutely hated it.

200mb broadband is good though, and will make accessing 4k/HDR stuff a lot easier in the future.

Pretty sure you can currently only order Q if you have Sky Broadband.
