Thanks for the mails guys. Thought I’d point out the limitations of the influence i may or may not have.

As i work in the operational side of the business the offers i have are limited to New Customers or discounts based on existing packages. I can’t adjust or modify package details or prices in contract or as part of a renewal.

I’m not sure what the other Sky folk on this thread are capable of though.
Same for me, not involved in the domestic side anymore at all.

Same here. I work for the News Channel.
As I touched on in a previous post on here, I don't mind helping genuine P'heads members who want new customer deals, or who want to upgrade their packages and I can also get access to the deals mentioned above, too - but I have had a number of emails, both from people already on here and also some signing up to P'heads, presumably after a Google search, just to PM me for deals, then never even having the courtesy of replying to emails I send with the offers available, presumably if the deals don't suit them.

Agreed. I have emailed and received replies from you sky guys in the past and wholeheartedly think you do a sterling job.

It’s difficult to weed out the chancers who’ve just signed up to PH for your knowledge/deals. But I guess the only way to weed them out is to check out their PH details to check they’re genuine.

So if I'm approaching the end of my contract so the monthly price is about to go up significantly i.e. the discount period is ending, are you able to help me keep the price the same or should I contact Sky directly?

Are in contract customers allowed to cancel everything without any early termination charges if sky have put the prices up mid contract again?!

I've had the price increase email and it mentions cost of living crisis etc, and then tells me my bill is going up more than 10% ffs, so I'm tempted to bin the whole lot.

Can't find online chat on their website and don't want to be stuck on a call forever trying to find out...

You'll have to check your T's & C's as newer contracts (well with BT at least) have an "inflation rate" clause in them.

Yep quick Google brings this up...............

If anyone can help with a friends and family discount that would be much appreciated.

I currently have a sky q box and two sky q mini boxes
Ultra hd
Multiscreen
Sky cinema
Sky signature
Complete sports
Sports hd
Netflix with sky, think this might be part of sky signature?
Also have sky broadband ultrafast 1

Currently paying £100 per month and then the price increase, wondering what kind of price a friends and family deal might get me if anyone does have one spare.

Contract has been cancelled yesterday due to price increase but would stay if price was right.

Thank you for taking the time out to read.

Sadly all our deals are for new customers but you've done the right thing by actually cancelling. You'll likely get a call from someone who can offer a decent wedge off in the next week or two.

It’s great that friendly folk help out. smile
But it isn’t right is it. Speculative price hike, a virtual friend gets you a discount.
The sooner they legislate against rip off price rises the better.
I don’t play the game. Service provider takes the P on renewal ? Switch & cancel.
Always have an alternative lined up.

Which is fine if there is an alternative, but as far as Sky goes there really isn't (if you use many of the features of course). We watch over 3 TVs and 2 iPads (kids), much of what we watch isn't on Freeview and we record a lot to watch when convenient, sometimes months later. And we don't have the option of Virgin.

Sky just works for us and there isn't another option even close in terms of useability.

I agree it's very convenient if you're already set up, but have you recently reviewed what you watch?

There isn't much on Sky, except sports, which isn't available elsewhere and a DVR will pay itself off within a few months of Sky fees.

And how is your Sky hardware? We've had constant problems with ours - the wireless mini boxes don't work wirelessly and need to be connected by ethernet and now the main box drops the audio on apps regularly for no apparent reason.

Good to hear i have done something right!

Thanks for the response.

Would my wife (same last name) be classed as a new customer, or would i be better off waiting for a call. I think I’m a diamond member of 19 years if that makes a difference?

Off the top of my head, the main things that aren't on Freeview are the F1 (please don't suggest I watch the awful C4 coverage!), a lot of series from Sky Atlantic, Netflix and Paramount+, Films (especially the kids films) and whatever the kids are currently watching (usually from Sky Kids or Sky Cinema). We often download things for the kids on the Sky box and they can watch it on their iPads (not sure if that is possible with off-the-shelf DVRs?). Similarly we will download stuff to their iPad for long journeys, flights etc.

We went through a stage a while back (over a year ago) where the main box needed a reboot every couple of months, but it's been rock solid for months now. I've possibly had a glitch once or twice in the past year where a mini box has needed restarting. Mini boxes run fine over wifi (one on the first floor, one on the second, giving us wifi into our loft conversion that I previously needed a repeater for).

I have Sky Broadband (70+mb, might have had one issue in the past few years) and 2 Sky Mobile accounts (could possibly save a pound or so a month elsewhere...)

I would happily lift and shift the lot to other providers if I could get a similar service and most importantly a similar user experience as I have today for significantly less per month, but I just can't see how it would be possible. For me at least, Sky is like Apple - it just works.

Just to add to this that after seeing a swathe of emails from people that have signed up to PH just for a Sky deal i've added a step to qualify and justify sending a deal. I generally look up the username and the number i check that have zero posts, have just signed up that day etc. are clearly chancing their arm so won't get a response.

PH is set up that new accounts are limited to where they can post as new users but this doesn't stop this thread being found and the forum allows emails to be sent (of you've configured it in your profile). I live in hope the PH will eventually upgrade the forums, it was built from scratch yonks ago by Ted I think and is not the easiest thing to navigate, moderate or modify.

Ideally i'd have this thread hidden to only users that have been registered for a while or had so many posts so as to truly offer something to the established community but for now the manual username check does the job.

I have to say though that for those i have managed to get a deal to they are always super thankful and make some genuine savings. Group Hug!

Through bluelight i can get sports, multiroom, uhd, netflix and the standard package for £68/ month.

If i were to call them now I’ve put my cancellation in could i expect any better than this do you think?

Yes she would be classed as a new customer if she isnt on the original account, i used to flip between myself and my wife. Havent needed to since we moved house as both times i’ve called they’ve done reasonable deals for me - in fact when i called reguarding latest contract i was ready to cancel and move to Virgin, i didnt even need to make that ‘threat’ as they offered a better package for less than i was paying

Awful to hear you've split up and moved out but very gracious of you to leave the family home for her and the children. wink

Well, that's crap that people who are trying to help members out are getting spammed. Not sure how you can filter genuine members out from the chances though?

Although if one doesn't get a reply despite having too many posts over too many years one then looks in the dictionary under ""paranoid" only to read "So why do YOU want to know?" hehe

I’ve moved somewhere where I can’t have a dish so I’m looking at Glass or Stream. Not sure which to go for yet as the stream would still need a new TV. I have read some awful reviews of the Glass but never noticed any issues when playing with them on display in store. I guess there are not deals on these two products as they are different to the standard offering?

I might suggest this to the wife, although i think she may be a bit too enthusiastic!
