Hi all,

Sky is in my wife's name and we are out of contract. We would like Sky Q and UHD, but to upgrade we have to pay £219.99.

We don't have movies, sports etc.

If she cancelled Sky, could I then set up as a new customer as it would just be in my name?
This would only cost us £20 to install and then £39 per month after, which also includes Netflix.

Thanks.
Just ring them up (I know, hard at the moment) and they'll give it to you for probably just the £20 installation fee. My mum in her 70s rang them 6 months ago and they offered that straight away and she didn't haggle (because she can't!).
Last time we called they wouldn't. I'll get her to try again though.

I am in similar situation but from what I have read, sky go by household and not individual names. If you believe the internet stories, highly unlikely switching over to your name will work..

Both recent changes to my contract have been done through online chat - slow but got there in the end.

New boxes shouldn’t cost you much, on the basis you’re renting them. I paid about £100 up front for a 2TB and a mini

Hi all

Similar to others on here, I've been helped out by Davie in the past - thanks for that.

I'm currently tied in on the TV side until February, which is frustrating as our viewing habits have changed quite a bit since I committed to 18 months to secure a good Sky Sports deal last year.

Deal at the moment looks like this:

Sky Entertainment - £21
Box sets - £2
Sky Kids - £2
Sky sports complete - £13
Sky Sports HD - £2
Sky Q multiscreen (1 extra box) - £14

Superfast Broadband - £27

I'm trying to figure out if I could save by recommitting to another 18 months with a move to signature and ultimate to reduce the cost of netflix.

There seem to be a few deals that people have got recently that make the multiscreen and sports elements above look a bit much.

Failing that, I'm inclined to run down the contract and switch to BT for the broadband in due course.

Have messaged Davie, look forward to hearing back from him if not too much trouble smile

My current package has just ended and looking for a deal to renew, we’re actually happy to go freeview but for boring reasons relating to our house setup we do need to keep a tv package to get Internet.

We’re paying £100/month for ent package, HD, multiroom, phone with calls package, broadband. Managed to get the above with Netflix, signature and the new broadband plus for faster WiFi for around £80. Thing is we don’t really watch much of the tv and it chafes paying £31 for tv we don’t need - we could go to just net from sky but they said we need a tv package to keep multi room which we use for an internet box.

Why not just spend £50 on a repeater, seems madness to pay sky £31 a month for a WiFi booster!

It’s difficult to explain but we’ve had massive problems with booster boxes due to our house, which is highly insulated and like a faraday cage biggrin Essentially 2 years of hassle and I’ve tried BT boosters and TPLink and the only thing that worked was getting another sky q booster box. I thought about trying a mesh booster package with a internet deal but we have very limited availability of broadband where we live (arse end of nowhere) and most broadband and phone deals were coming in around £60ish quid without any boosters. That sky package guarantees our broadband speed in every room - I think I’m going to go for it and advice from Davie was that it was a pretty decent deal.

The multiroom Q box is just repeating the signal, as any booster does. Very bizarre, but if you're happy!

Yeah I’ve not explained myself very well but the other booster boxes we used worked well for a little while then kept interfering with the sky q and the net would go down until we got an engineer out. We’ve had more engineers out to fix our net than I can count! In the end one helpful chap said to get another sky booster box and rely on that for net and bin the third party boxes. That totally sorted all our net issues for about a year until a 4 day loss of service due to storm ciara and we’re back to square 1 again. The sky q booster boxes are really good but you need a tv package to be able to use them (apparently).

Thanks for the Mail Siko, hope it works out.

If it helps I've got a spare WiFi booster lying around doing not a lot. Anyone who needs one and thinks it will help can ping me.

If it’s a Sky one I’d be interested! Could pm you the postage?

We’ve had the full sky package incl phone and Fibre for over 12 years.

We also have amazon prime and Netflix 4K.

Now id not really touched Netflix since we added it last Sept. however it’s really good. I’ve watched all that I want on sky so now awaiting the new series which who knows when will be available. Netflix has so much on there that is unexplored.
Lockdown has also meant we are actually watching a lot more movies on Sky which is getting more value out of it.

However when you look down the monthly costs / budgeting Sky is reasonably high in that list after mortgage council tax and grocery shopping.
