Bit of help required please.

Currently have a 40" Sony LCD (1080p - 8 years old) - This is going to be replaced, not sure yet with what but 4k system (about 55")

Its more the cinema system to support it that I need thoughts about:
Currently using an Onkyo sound base - which is brilliant compared to the tv sound.

My dilemma is what to replace the sound base with:

Option 1: AV system and 5.1 speakers (eg Denon AVRX2300 / AVRX3300 paired with Audio mass 5.1 Q Acoustics) eg. https://www.richersounds.com/package/system-savers...
https://www.richersounds.com/package/system-savers...

Option 2: Use the Sonos 5.1 system ( Playbar, Sub, 2xPlay 1s)

Its not a huge living room but:
- Does the Sonos provide good enough 5.1 sound? Is it true 5.1?
- I prefer the theory of having only one HDMI coming from the Receiver into the TV as other components go into the AV (Virgin, Amazon Fire, Blu Ray,)

Is there any advice, things to consider?

Well yes good questions drop me a PM I can advise happy to call back if you want. Always options but depends on your needs budget and requirements, plus emerging markets and new kit that's not always on the high street.

Truth be told, both will more then adequately do the job for you, unless you are of serious audiophile qualities! I have always been a fan of Q Acoustics kit myself though. smile

The Sonos wont do 5.1 audio formats so is a bit of a compromise.

Invest the money in the AVR and speaker package (I havent heard the speakers but should be better than Sonos).

Personally I would pop in to a Richer Sounds and see what they have in the demo room.

I know the brand is like marmite, love or hate but have you considered the Bose 300 soundbar ?,you can add a wireless sub and rears,it's around 1400 quid, plenty of bass for the movies, but a clear room filling sound if you want to play music from your phone.

I went for the Denon 2300 and a set of Tannoy 101XP from Richer sounds in the end. I installed it over the weekend - the cabling being the biggest issue (hiding etc).

Very impressed with the improvement over the sound base - however only gripe is that not all TV stations use a 5.1 output and you notice the difference when it switches to Stereo and not surround. Still getting to learn the settings and the kids love films now in proper 5.1 with the Sub.

Use the amps upmixing capabilities. the Dolby Surround sound protocol does quite a good job.

I recently bought one of these:
https://www.richersounds.com/product/soundbars-sou...

Speakers at either end of the sound bar detach to become rear speakers, and also comes with a wireless sub so you get 5.1.
Reattach speaker onto the bar for recharging.

Quite pleased with the sound so far.
