I have found out 2 hours ago that I am heading off to Thailand for work tomorrow evening. I currently have some sennheiser in ear headphones, but I would like something more comfortable for 11 hour flight.
I will want to use them with the in flight entertainment system as well as my ipad, so I guess pure bluetooth ones are out of the question.
Any suggestions?

I use a set of Bose QC20 in ear headphones, while not the best acoustically for the money they do work well at cutting out the drone and roar on an aircraft. They work really well in a noisy car too, higher pitches get through to an extent so you can still hear sirens etc.

On a plane, I'd go for noise-cancelling headphones.

I've got the regular ones of these and love the sound they give

These Sony MDR-1000X are half price today & are very good:

Buy them with the BT transmitter recommended & you are good to go. Delivery may be a problem as I don't think you will get them tomorrow unless you pay for next-day delivery.

Looks like I am a bit late for these. Now up to £290.
Lot of comments about the band breaking and creaking so was not sure about them when I saw them at £189

I've just ordered them from PC world too - went for delivery as I am in no rush, but the reviews I read put them right up there with the Bose QC35, some say even better smile

I read the Sony can occasionally have an issue - see https://medium.com/@Xander51/buyer-beware-it-looks...
...but I did tweet Sony about that, and they confirmed (very rapidly) that "we have investigated recent complaints from Sony customers as a matter of priority. Although our MDR-1000X headphones meet all necessary quality standards, we will offer free of charge repair to the very small number of customers who have experienced such physical damage to the headband of their MDR-1000X. This repair is in line with our standard Sony European Guarantee."

So perhaps take a little care with them, but I am looking forward to peace on my next flight (not until next year now!)

Went to pick them up from PC world and as happened when I was last on my way there, I have to go past John Lewis. Don't know why I keep forgetting they are there, but I do.
Pulled into their car park and checked the price on their website and they were the same as PC world. Bought it at John Lewis instead as you get a 2yr guarantee with them rather than the usual 1.

At £329, they are a bit too expensive seeing as though they will mainly be used for pane trips. Have bought the Sony MDR-1000X from John Lewis.
They come with a 2 prong adaptor and a 3.5mm cable to plug in with. The last few international flights I have been on, you just plugged the 3.5mm headphone lead into the entertainment unit.
Had a quick listen to these and they do sound good and the noise cancelling works really well. I couldn't hear the washing machine on the spin cycle. The most I have previously spent on a pair was about £35 on my last set of Sennheiser CX 2.00.
Lets hope they don't suffer from some of the issues on the Amazon reviews
