I intend to, but the guy who installed my last cinema system (Denon/MK/Panasonic) has told me that Bose have really moved the game on with their latest system, with tiny speakers and a clever integrated solution. The recommendation has come from someone I know and trust, he won't be doing the work or supplying the system given the geography but has worked in the commercial AV sector for many years. I will be visiting my nearest Bose dealer in the new year (it's a 120 mile round trip), along with a visit to a more local independent. Budget is @£10k, for system, screen and projector.Blue62 said:

I've heard the 600. A ludicrous amount to pay for style over substance but that's just my opinion.I've never heard the 650 (and don't who's recommending it to you) but, unless it defies physics with those tiny speakers I think I'd be wasting my time.
Is there a USP I'm missing?
Make the journey, listen with an open mind and decide for yourself - it's the only way.

I'm genuinely interested to know what people think of the 650. Just one of the problems I have with Bose is that it's almost impossible to find proper, thorough and independent reviews of their products. A quick google reveals reviews by sellers and Bose. Hmmm, doesn't sound too open and honest to me. Back in the 90s Bose would see you in court if you upset them at all.
Whenever I've heard their stuff, even the expensive gear playing specially chosen (by the shop) material, there's always a yawning chasm in the frequencies being reproduced. And that's just plain wrong. Yep, big-bang-bass is there in abundance, and breaking glass can be heard. Voices might be clear! But, the gap between the bass unit and the tiny speakers can't be overcome.

As far as I am aware in the residential market place, an all in budget of £10k is not going to get you all of that with a lazer projector. You could do it with a native 4K projector and certainly with psudeo 4K projector which are very good, but I prefer my native Sony.
Is this going to be a dedicated room or a dual living/movie room. Because I can understand the desire for something like the Bose for aesthetic reasons. I haven’t heard it so couldn’t comment on its acoustic performance. But another check is to see if it is 4K or Dolby Atmos/DTS-X etc compatible.

It does support 4k and the system won't be in a dedicated cinema room, so aesthetic matters, though as we are having the house built there is scope to hide pretty much everything away whatever system I opt for. I won't be going for a 4k projector, the Panasonic is @£5k and the bose system comes in at under £4k, screen and fitting may take it me slightly over budget but that's been the trend since we started this project! The projector is coming via the contact I mentioned at the start of this post, he runs a commercial AV business and as a favour I am getting the projector at trade, I should have mentioned this but will happily share the spec when I have it, a week or so from now I hope.Struggling to find it from my normal sources.

As promised, I have now had the spec for the projector, it's Panasonic PT-RZ570, quoting me £5k trade HTHStruggling to find it from my normal sources.

Edited to add: you should really get yourself over to AVForums. Someone there will give you some proper advice on how to spend £10k - Bose and that projector will be poor value IMHO.

Thanks for the response, I've been waiting for the full quote before replying to you. The total cost is £6250 including a ceiling lift and screen and the actual model quoted is an RX570, which I am struggling to find on the internet, but as an overall figure it looks about right to me. I have taken your advice and joined the AV forum, quite a lot of support for Epson projectors but nothing negative about Panasonic, I haven't mentioned Bose (until I have listened to it myself) because of the abuse I will likely get!!!Edited to add: you should really get yourself over to AVForums.
