KEF Ci160CRds ceiling speaker (via VEX)
Discussion
Just a cheeky post to say thanks to VEX for some sound (geddit?) advice regarding ceiling speakers, and subsequently supplying some KEF Ci160CRds ceiling speakers.
When we replaced the kitchen a few years ago we put in some cheap Adastra speakers (PA / tannoy type things) with a (VEX supplied) Sonos Connect. They’ve been OK, but we found ourselves using them more and more... so replacement beckoned.
Took some advice and had a look at a few brands, but the KEFs got decent reviews so decided to go ahead.
A day later, they turned up.
Some choice swearing and the old speakers popped out. Easily replaced and now sat enjoying far tighter bass and greater detail and clarity - beyond what I expected from a ceiling speaker.
So, cheers VEX - great service and advice, thank you.

Cheers, that looks like it would do the job. Can't see it for sale though.Guess this would work.

...another hijack thread!!
I'm doing a house renovation at the moment and absolutely everything is being plastered or over-boarded. I'm just about to hit the living room and as I run KEF floor standers for my fronts and rears and a big IQ60 as a centre (which I may swap out for something thinner), I figured now was the right time to put some ATMOS speakers up. The living room is a nice size but probably only big enough to warrant a 5.1.2 setup.
As everything is already KEF, I figured a some KEF CI series speakers of some sort would be perfect!
The one thing that worries me is that sound really travels from the living room in to the master bedroom above. When you install a ceiling speaker, how do you go about insulating the floor above from noise?
The bedroom will get carpeted at some point and it's fairly rare that we don't watch films together so noy a huge issue, but I wondered what the best way of reducing noise going in to the room above was?
Thanks.

Sound Bleed upwards is always an issue with open backed / infinite baffle speakers.
By their nature they are designed to leak backwards and if you enclose them inside a box they doent work as well or efficiently.
Ideally you should use ones with a designed back can / enclosure. Then far more sound with be projected forward rather then backwards.
The only problem then is, they tend to be a lot deeper and therefore harder to fit into a standard ceiling void.

They tend to be a bit of a mix.
As Podie has shown they do have two pairs of terminals, but there is also some cross over / merging as the Mid/Small Base driver is a single speaker. The mid/tweeters are the mounted in the front as a pair and usually are directional so that you can push the stereo seperation further apart.
