I'm returning to my long lost vinyl collection and need a decent turntable as my old Technics from the early 80's had packed up when I attempted to revive it (and has since gone on the skip).

quite happy with a used table and spotted a Planar 1 on Ebay for £175 which interests me.

I have an Arcam Alpha 3 amp and Tannoy 6 speakers so need something which will ideally plug in and be compatible with them (I know nothing about Hi Fi).

Any suggestions?

Rega or a Project are good basic turntables. Buying second hand will save a few pennies but make sure you do not pay close to the price of a new one on sale as things like the stylus do wear.

The Alpha 3 has a Phono input just check if it can be set to Moving magnet and or Moving coil. The Planer should come with a decent Rega Arm, what's the Cartridge?

..it used to run my old Technics deck so I presume it will be okay?

The Technics Probably had a Moving Magnet Cartridge. The Rega will probably have the same but I would check. It will be a much superior desk to the Technics so hopefully you will get a better sound. Even the SL1200 wasn't a match sound quality wise for the Budget Turntables of the time. They were great DJ decks being able to be transported and having the ability to slip the records.

Great, thanks for that.

Just noticed Lintone Audio are doing an R1 as 'manufacturer refurbished' for £199 with a 2 year guarantee so will go there. The Ebay one has marks and has had a new bearing(!) so must have had some hammer and it's £175 + £8 P&P

New bearing is no indication of wear or use. I changed my bearing for a ceramic one when I owned a Planar 3. However, speak to Lintone; the old Planars had the RB250/300/R200 arms which were decent but I couldn't comment on the new RB101 on the newer Rega entry level turntables.

I decided to get a Dual CS-505/1 last year, as it was the alternative I didn’t get when I decided to be all modern and go linear tracking with a Technics SL5 in the 1980s. Sounds great.

This Lenco has been very well received by the press https://thevinylfactory.com/features/turntable-rev...

Hi-Fi World were full of praise about the Sound quality ( and build quality ). There are couple of threads on PH where its been recommended previously.

You can get the Lenco L-3807 from the Lenco website for £115 at the moment. (reduced from £250) Bit of a bargain that...

I guess the L-3807 must be the predecessor to the L-3808 as it looks very similar.

However I've not heard a dickie bird since - have I been scammed?

No, I think it's a scam website - should have checked it before clicking on it.

Have you contacted them and asked where it is?

It wouldn't surprise me if you're waiting for the slowboat from China...

Contacted and no response.

It did say when I ordered that the slow boat from China would take 14 days but that's now double to date

I'd file a claim and get your money back - the Lenco is pretty cheap and nasty and you can do much better for your money. Personally, I'd go with an entry level Rega or Pro-Ject turntable - they'll sound much better.

(Well, actually, I'd have gone with fixing your Technics, as it would probably have been the best of the lot, but I think that ship has sailed!)

Unless you got redirected I believe Lintone Audio are a legit outfit (but my KW250s from them, though this was over 10yrs ago)
