That's what everyone says until they get a sub and realise what they've been missing!

Also just noticed your selling post on AVforums, guess it's not necessary anymore!

Nice setup though, what do you have on top of the speakers on the picture there?

Hah yeah I was fully expecting to shift on the Q300s but after the above experience the and going back to the Q300s, selling no more. I'm sure I removed the thread though but will double check.

Oh I'm sure a sub will add a noticeable difference, it simply has to since the speakers are left to do just the mids and highs so physics dictates it as such. Maybe I will explore a decently cost effective sub and set the NAD to a decent filter mode with the Q300s at one point but for now all is well.

My new setup for my listening area/WFH desk replacing only an entry level Pro-ject with OM5E and adding to the headphone amp and tone control.

Fluance RT85 turntable - I have a Nagaoka MP-110 on the way to swap the 2M Blue that it comes with it. Fluance offer the RT85N with it but you can't buy direct from them in the UK without paying $200 shipping..., and they don't have the N model on Amazon yet. By a stroke of luck I actually found the MP-110 in stock somewhere!!
Elipson Facet 6BBT active speakers
Pro-Ject Phono-Box S2 Ultra
Pro-ject Head-box S2
Schiit Loki tone control
B&O H6 over-ears, and I have to admit I use my Soundmagic E11 in ears a lot of the time, may look at upgrading them.

Position of the turntable isn't ideal I know, but the isolation foam for the speakers seems to be doing a good job - I'm feeling a barely perceptible vibration in the desk, so I think I might just get some little sorbothane pads to go under the pointed rubber jobbies on the Fluance. I don't find the turntable being in front of the speaker much of an issue sound wise, it's 8 inches or so away and putting it elsewhere isn't really useful for me as I'm on a wheelchair. I can always move the keyboard and put the turntable in the centre for proper listening sessions.

I really wanted to upgrade to something with semi auto functions so it sorts itself out if I get side tracked with work, hence was looking at mostly classic turntables - I probably would have picked up a PL-514 had a black one been available currently - the RT85 is just auto start/auto stop but I settled on it as its new and it seems a good turntable for the money that will take me at least one cartridge upgrade. The Elipsons sound great and image well at low volume at near field listening which was exactly what I wanted, plus the flexibility to connect my phone or the mini-PC. Yet to hear the RT85 in fact, but I'm pretty much set on selling on the 2M unused, I've heard enough comparisons to decide it likely isn't what I want for metal. I hope all this and the more coloured MP110 allows me to get rid of the Loki; the only reason I have it is a small number of rather flat remasters I have (likely from CD and not mastered properly for vinyl, the worst offenders are a couple of 2017 Noise records reissues).

Excellent lurking Bob.

How do you get on with those? I love the mysticism around the old Rogers speakers but I found them too tuned for vocals to enjoy them with the type of music I usually listen to. I know that is what they were intended for but I wanted to like them for their history and the design ethos... thin-wall resonant/damped enclosures - I'm a drummer and drums are built that way, so that appealed to me.

I had opportunity to listen to some 3-way Harbeth speakers which I think are spiritually intended as a continuation/update to the Rogers speakers and they seem to have brought back the missing lower band however they are properly pricey and I just don't have good enough hearing any more to do them justice.

My little setup

Nad L75 receiver
Rega RP1 turntable w/acrylic
Rega phono mini AD2 phono stage
B&W DM303 speakers

All donkeys years old stuff (think the receiver an d speakers are pushing 14 years old now) but does the job for playing my vinyl.

Sounds a bit rubbish in our new build house compared to the old Victorian terraced place we had, not sure why at the minute but hoping the lack of stands have something to do with it.

Some new toddler friendly speaker stands need to be found as does a way of hooking up an iPad to an optical input.

Picked up a s/h Planar 1 Plus at the weekend for a simple basher system, as I fancied playing with some vinyl after 20 years away from it.

Bought it blind based on the 5* reviews, but what a piece of cheap plastic tat! Really disappointed in it.

Anyhow currently:

Rega Planar 1 Plus
2x paired Sonos Gen 1 Play:5

About to become once I pick up a suitable switch/controller:

Rega Planar 1 Plus
Sonos Gen 1 Connect
Arcam rDAC
Adam Audio A7x's
Adam Audio Sub 7

My latest incarnation:

Rega P3 with Exact cartridge
Rega Fono phono preamp
Yamaha WXAD streamer dac
Naim 202 Pre amp
Naim 200 Power amp
Naim NAPSC power supply
Monitor Audio RS6 speakers

I have just bought the Naims from a friend and they all have just had a Witch Hat service/upgrade.

I think the speakers will be the next to be changed. I've got a thing for the PMC twenty5 24 in piano black at the moment.
This will be closely followed by some mods to the turntable....

With that set up I woulds absolutely upgrade the speakers. I ran an ND5 XS and a Nait 5i with RS6s before I upgraded to Focal 926s and the difference was startling - in a good way. I then went mad with a full upgrade which is a whole other story - and money.

Interesting you mention Focal as I was also looking at the 918s but I think they'd be a bit small for my room (4.5 x 8m.) I don't think I'd get clearance from my O/H for the 926. They look a bit large for me to get away with!
How did you find the ND5 XS? Being an older model (relatively) would it still work ok with modern apps etc? I've been looking at the XS2 which sonically reviews very well, but it does come at a price.

I was really happy with the ND5 XS and had no real desire to change it, I just needed to do something with the amplification and speakers as it was feeling a little tired and dare I say it unrefined. I actually went to a Nait XS3 first and then with the 926s but kept the ND5 and I was more than happy, all worked and sounded spiffing.

I then made the tragic mistake of visiting my local dealer to have my LP12 tweaked and heard my ideal set up, SN3, NDX2 and Kanta 2s - ouch. When it came to selling my 926s I did a quick demo to the chap who was buying them and forgot how good they actually are. The step change from the 926s to the Kantas wasn't as big as the change from RS6s to 926s so if you get a chance to demo them, I really would do it. You're right though, they are a bit bigger than the RS6s!

You have quite a serious set up! It is a dangerously slippery slope...
I think I'm going to have to work on the O/H regarding getting some slightly bigger boxes in the room.

Wow, that's some high end setup. I must admit I've no idea what the Entreq Tellus 2 is, even after looking at their website but I imagine it works for you.

Can I ask if it's suited more to one type of music or if it's for all sorts?

Like that setup a lot thumbup Pleased to hear it sounds great too.

Quick question for you. Have you tried experimenting with increasing the speaker toe in angle? and / or listening in the nearfield? Both in an attempt to reduce early reflections from side walls?
