Also. DO NOT spend silly money on HDMI leads (unless you really want to throw money away). No matter how much the fella down the electrical outlet says that the £80 cables are better, they are talking bks. Great big ones.

HDMI specification.
https://www.hdmi.org/consumer/finding_right_cable....

I use "High Speed". Around a fiver tops for s 6' lead. Amazon basics will do though there is some commentary on the premium certification picking up a few issues the high speed should have.

If it works with high speed that will be fine. The premium is only a few bob more though not sure what needs it. Maybe dolby vision? I cant display that so not sure.

Not working is a black screen or some breakup.

I have an amazon account so, will check out the content there. That Sony looks pretty good, although my man maths would make an X Box S much easier to justify! Pity they're not all that great at 4k playback.

To be honest, all my HD content is going to look so much better than it does currently due to the contrast alone, that anything in 4K will just be the icing on the cake!

Upscaling is pretty good for HD. You will notice SD though, it will be like watching stuff filmed in fuzzy felt.

I bought a 65" LG OLED about 18 months ago. I'm still so impressed with the picture that I have the odd 'wow' moment.

In fact, it caused another issue. It was so much better than the 32" Samsung I had in the bedroom that I found I was never watching TV there. Even if I was getting tired, I would continue my TV watching in the lounge rather than suffer such a step down in picture quality and size.

I solved this a couple of weeks ago by buying a 55 B7 for the bedroom.

The B7/C7 range is a bargain at the moment. Richer Sound had a good deal when I bought mine and it cost a mere £1,374. Absolute bargain.

Great news OP, let us know your thoughts!

Amazon 4k HDR is pretty good, in fact I'd say Grand Tour looks better than some UHD BluRay's but it doesn't quite match something like Blue Planet 2. This is on an LGEF950V (4k OLED, but an older one). Moving house in a year, can't wait to pick up as 65 inch C8 for around £2! (I'll probably pay less than I paid for my 55).

TV ownership seems to be a constant cycle of playing the waiting game for the price of new technology to drop. But, the longer you wait, the older and more obsolete your existing hardware becomes! Who knows what we'll all be salivating over in 5 years time!!

I suspect I'll end up getting a 4k BR player to complete the set but, I want to check out the streaming content first. Rather cruelly, my delivery timeslot on Monday is between 16:00 and 19:00! I don't often find myself wishing the weekend away but, Monday cannot come soon enough!! hehe

Blu-ray will still beat streaming. For now.

But the minefield there is blu ray master in 4k or less.

Make sure you calibrate the screen , there are plenty of suggestions if you google it. Netflix looks a bit odd , until the screen is set up correctly . Sky is fine (especially sports which look amazing) .

I'll tweak a few settings for sure, switching off eco mode and true motion seem to be the most common suggestions and I have printed out some settings to try if it doesn't look right after that.

I'm tempted to upgrade to Sky Q too. Anyone got it? Is the UHD worth the extra £12 a month?

I think so, yes.

Live sport in UHD seems to have the edge over movies or box sets.

So, it finally arrived yesterday afternoon.

First impressions are, unsurprisingly, very good indeed! The additional 5" screensize isn't as big an upgrade as I was expecting (from a 60" screen) but, the upgrade in image quality is huge! I had to tweak the settings a bit to begin with but, once that was done, it looks amazing.

I watched the Sense 8 finale on Netflix and was hugely impressed bythe depth of colours and clarity. The watched the first episode of Planet Earth 2 (also in 4k on netflix) and it completely blew me away! I have yet to try any Amazon footage but, Netflix and the stuff you can find on youtube are jaw dropping!

The blacks are....well, they are completely black! I knew on paper how good the contrast would be but, to see it my own lounge was definitely a 'wow' moment!

No buyers remorse here - my eyes are very happy thumbup

When will they release TV's that are essentially just giant monitors? I don't need all the tuner/ speaker/ usb inputs as they are all covered by my AV receiver and sky box. They could be much thinner and cheaper than todays tvs

looks interesting but still aimed as a gaming monitor and therefor probably £££, why not the same type of thing from the big tv companies?
surely there are many many people that this would appeal to??

Not over yet....... I can see the difference with Netflix 4k and BT/Apple for example. Netflix comes out at 15mb/s for 4k. Others are higher around 26 or so and a sharper image. Edit. And bluray will be better for PLanet Earth II

And with this set, you cannot tell when it is off just looking at the screen.

Really? Well, if it gets even better than what I've seen so far, I'm in for a treat! Tonight I'll be watching 'American Gods' in 4k on Amazon so, will have a basis for comparison. Don't have appleTV, but will look into it.

Tomorrow, I'll take the PS4 for a test drive. Not a pro though but, Gods of War has an HDR mode so, I'll be interested to see how that improves what is already a gorgeous game when in bog standard HD!

Apple may not be your cup of tea.
You "buy" the film from iTunes. No physical copy. Leave iTunes and I think the lot goes, it is in the T+C. If they pull a film, it goes but I think your library copy will still be valid. One film I had (The Great Wall) certainly was bounced back to HD after it went to 4K so the studios are still having a say. Obviously download speeds need to be there from your ISP. Obviously the advantage is no physical media and streaming and the 4k film prices are half the main street and online.

The film studios seem to call the shots on what is 4k. Disney seem to be keeping everything HD through Apple. But they are about to launch their own service I think? Star Wars and all that as a well now so I am keeping off them but an example, (not disney) three planet of the Apes films on offer for 9.99, in 4k. Limited offer so not sure when that will end but never really got into them. Offer are on all the time. An app called cheap charts will tell you when and more.

BUT, I work on films that are the true eye candy I get on disk for the best experience. Others I pick up in the sales unless I really want to pay 10-13 quid for ne. Remember shops early drop past 19 for 4k.

Watch out for 4k disks though as that can also be a minefield. there are 4k films that are from 2k masters. Slightly better than 1080p. However the HDR adons make up for that.
Handy pointers to which are true 4K in here (link below) but the Mad Max Thunder Road was not a 4k master but it is superb with HDR on disk. I will know today how they compare as the Mad Max four films has popped up in the Apple sale for 9.99.
http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=270798

However I like Apple so use it a lot. Not just films, all the TV shows as well.

My set will not do anything with the new Dolby do no idea on that.

CEX is worth checking out for used 4K discs. Start from £7.50 including postage.

I bought an LG OLED65E7 a couple of months ago.

Plus points
Picture Quality is stunning. Chef's Table on Netflix in Dolby Vision is pure 4k Porn.
Sound quality is very good for integrated speakers.
Private web browsing is an essential option. Ahem.

Minus points
Set up out of the box needs to be tweaked but recommended settings are online.
Movement can be slightly flickery.
£800 cashback still not arrived. LG extended payback from 30 days to 60 days.

Looking forward to seeing the World Cup in BBC UHD.

Definitely agree with you there. I have been very pleasantly surprised by the sound quality and overall 'presence'.
