Looking for a DAB radio for the kitchen, nothing too fancy but definitely not one of the myriad of brands you've never heard of that cost about £25 and are rubbish (just sending one back to Amazon at the moment as it refused to hold presets and needed to scan through stations every time we turned the blooming thing on). And not a cheap Roberts either as their budget stuff seems to be as bad as everybody else's.
Something like this maybe?

Why not buy a speaker and then use your phone and the apps for supplying the music of choice?

Can't comment save to say that several years back, I bought a Pure midi hi-fi on the basis of rave reviews.
It broke, just out of warranty. Absolutely nothing special about it.
Sadly. most things are built down to a shoddy price nowadays. I bought a GPO retro DAB radio and it wouldn't hold more than two presets. I was offered it for half price (about £14) so I kept it. Not much better than the FM I used before and it stays on radio 2.

We have a Pure Evoke x1 (and Aux speaker) in the kitchen that we have had for years and it just works. It gets used daily for Radio 4 and 6Music.

It's less faff to press the on button than to use a phone and Bluetooth speaker (that we also have) and it doesn't go off when you take the phone out of the room or go out.

I've a fairly old Goodmans one in the garage which also works, although I do actually usually use the phone bluetooth'd through a dongle to an NAD amp and Mission speakers in there as it's only me who uses it.

Thanks all, it's as I suspected, nothing under £100 seems worth buying!

We bought one of these last year for the kitchen and love it. Brilliant bit of kit - great sounding.

Looks interesting, thanks for the tip, often wonder about Goodmans stuff, the quality seems a bit random from one model to another.

One of the Problems with DAB is the price. A decent FM radio can be had for a £5. Not hifi and nothing to write home about but you get to listen.

Aye unfortunately it's the DAB stuff that Mrs B is interested in.

I used to listen daily while on site. Good selection (wider) of stations. Had absolute 60s 70s 80s 90s 00s. So different times daily rather than the samey dross I have to withstand now.

Wildcard suggestion - have you considered an Amazon Echo? Our Echo in the kitchen is mainly used for radio playback and I reckon the audio quality is pretty good.

I should day that we do have a Sonos in the kitchen but the missis doesn't like the idea of moving it back and forth between there and the back kitchen/wetroom area where she does her morning routine. She reckons the Sonos loses its memory whenever it's unplugged. Can't say as I know anything about it myself, but I do know that a separate DAB radio would be the easiest solution for me as well as her laugh

Sticks.

If you were to buy a Pure One, the battery is an extra £35.

This Sony XDR-S60 is very good, I have one in the kitchen, has 5 presets and a simple on/off button. Good sound, DAB+ ready.

Sonos doesn’t loose its memory when it’s powered off otherwise hundreds of thousands of people would throw it out every power cut.

They do take a while to boot up though.

Make sure you use the proper power supply.
I got mine mixed up and cooked the battery.

We'd be OK with mains only.

From a previous thread on here I bought an Azatom Multiplex DAB/FM radio for around £50. Very good, works on mains and battery
