It’s a bit larger, about 8” x 5” x 5” but that does give it decent rich sound

Have the controls ever locked up or the preset stations disappeared?

BP

You should consider Revo.
It’s a British Brand, I have several dotted about.
https://revo.co.uk/products/

They also sell their returned stock on eBay...

I’d really recommend a Superconnect, Heritage (old now on eBay only) or Supersignal.
DAB, FM, Internet, Spotify enabled...

Lovely sound, lovely build quality...

Interesting thanks I'll have a look. Would like to buy British if possible.

Pure Evoke is my recommendation. I have the single speaker version and it has been excellent over many years.
If I bought one today I would probably get an Amazon Echo or similar.

I have one of those Roberts retro radios for the kitchen - the model with DAB and Internet Radio.

Whilst I also have Sonos throughout the house, it’s nice to just be able to switch it on and have music without messing with the your smartphone in the mornings.

Was also going to recommend Revo. I have an Axis XS bought a few years ago, still going strong. Nice little thing.

They do look good in terms of spec. £99 for a factory refurb is a bit more than I was hoping to spend though and I'm wondering if it's 'too good' (no offence to Mrs B intended). Her last one got broken when she swept it off the microwave onto the floor while hurriedly applying makeup.

The mind boggles.

I agree that pressing the "on/standby" button is preferable to messing with a phone/booting up an Internet device for a kitchen radio.

I've not long got a Ruark R1 for garden, caravan, car cleaning duties.

Mains or you can buy a battery too which I have done, saves faffing around waiting for the Sonos to find the wi-fi again after being unplugged.

I tend to bluetooth a spotify playlist or just fire the DAB on.

I love it, its small, looks good, sounds great too.

I looked for ages and this was about the best I could find for the flexibility that I needed.

Mum likes the world service
She’s got herself a smashing place in some sheltered accommodation

There’s some flats nearby so I got her one of these

Bingo! That looks perfect, thanks very much. In fact I might splash out another three quid for the 'stereo' version.

ETA: except there are none available at any Argoses near me, or for delivery mad
ETA again: managed to get the Bush version, which looks exactly the same under a different name. Thanks to all for the advice and help.

I was in my local Tesco today and saw that they had a vintage Roberts style DAB radio for £30

I have quite a few Ruark R3 I can’t recommend their products highly enough. If I needed a small unit I would buy an R1 without hesitation

My Revo SuperSignal has died after just four years.

Won't power on, and the controller board looks a mess...

Not sure if it's worth trying to replace the electrolytics or just convert the case into a garden nest box...
