What is your 7 year old TV?

I have a 9 year old B&O that uses a Samsung VA panel, it is also backlit rather than edgelit, it still beats most LCDs out there image wise and black level wise.
That Samsung, and most sub 55" LCD sets now, use IPS panels, which means they simply can't do blacks properly.

This is my 9 year old Beovision 8 with a VA panel....

I couldn't live with an IPS panel.
its a LE40M87BDX/XEU

that cheap samsung has a va panel which is good am vearing that way at the mo

Interesting.

I will take a look at it.

I had my B&O up for sale, decided last night after posting this "why the hell am I changing it?!" Went on eBay to cancel the advert and someone had bought it.
Gutted to be honest!

Just tell them it's no longer available. You don't have to send it. Tell them it's broken or something.

We've got a 10 year old full HD 42" Panasonic plasma. Every so often, I think about replacing it, and always come to the conclusion that there's no point. The picture is still superb, and our lounge is too small, and our broadband too slow, to benefit from 4K.

The 43NU7400 'may' have a VA panel, some are coming with IPS.

The ones with VA are meant to be pretty good though.

£469 everywhere.

The 50" is VA.

I might see if RS have a 43" in stock and say if it is IPS I would want to return it, see what they say.

I would rather a 43" than 50".

Hmm that’s a bit pants! How can you tell if it has or not will it be diff model number etc?

Shame there’s not more diff in price between the 43 and 49. A 43 might look better for me but can’t help thinking for extra £20 should I be getting 49

would the 43" be better pic in theory - ie does the processor have to do more to fill the 49" screen etc? 43" prob fits better for me but need to justify not getting 49 for 20 quid more!

I noticed that the other day. Strangely the 43" gets 1 star but the 40" gets 4.7 star.

The 7100 is a very different beast to the 7400 and 7470.

The 7400 is the main set, I think the 7470 is the silver version.

A 43" won't necessarily be better than the 50", the fact they use different panels, which makes the most difference, means there will be differences though.
But nothing to do with the fact the screen sizes are different.

hmmm buy it from samsung you get 28 days to return it if you don't like it no questions asked - not sure if you get the 5 year guarantee like jl though. the frame has 100 day return i might just buy that and pontificate for 100 days!

Keep it. Streaming 4K might have the native dimensions, but it can be highly compressed which means you can get 4K blocky artifacted pixels. For UHD Blu Ray I am amazed at how many 4K discs are actually upscaled from the original Blu Ray. Genuine 4K transfers do look good but as I'm in the habit of ripping all my discs to my home media distribution system I'm not buying in to UHD as the cracking of the protection is still a bit hit and miss. Even on my 4 metre diagonal projector screen a BD image still looks good.

I still have a 42" Panasonic plasma, probably the same as yours (Z series I think). I was gutted that the bezel was so big it wouldn't fit into a designated hole in my new house, but I'll keep it as a gaming monitor.

One thing about new televisions - all of their attempts to be "smart" and media hubs really gets in the way. My new Sony has Android TV and it's a bit sluggish compared with my 10 year old Panasonic. The older format TV guide was so much more responsive and easy to use.

If you turn off the Youview on the Sony Androids they are much, much quicker to use.
