Hi all,

We are about to move into our new apartment and after 3 years living with a 43” Samsung, I’m going to treat myself to a big TV (either 55 or 65 - I need to measure up the wall first).

I had my heart set on a LG C9 or CX but a recent YouTube review said the reflections are bad which is a worry. I want something I can watch movies and sports on during the day, and our place is south facing with a large balcony and floor to ceiling windows, so if there is any chance of reflections, I suspect it will be an issue.

I’m therefore looking for the best CX alternative that works in a brighter room. What would be the best alternative - I’m flexible on Budget as I tend to keep TVs for a long time (and I’m about to get a fat tax refund that I’d only waste on pointless stuff like school fees)

We have a Samsung Q9R 65" in a room that has bi-fold doors running the length of one of the long walls and floor to ceiling windows opposite and it seem to do the job well.

Shades (nets) or blackout curtains. I get the sun in the afternoon coming in the living room.

Casual watching with the sun coming in is no real issues, not really noticed reflections though the worst is late in the day when the sun is lower. If I want a film experience then its dark room anyway, curtains pulled.

Edit. OLED tv.

Most the large LED TV’s have a matt finish, it’s just the OLED’s and a few LED’s that have a glossy finish.

I’ve got a 65” C9 OLED turning up on Thursday but it’s for the den rather than the living room and it’s not a bright room at all so should be fine.

LED’s will be better for a brighter room, especially ones with bright windows. The Samsung QLED’s get good results if OLED is no good for you.

Personally, I’d go for the OLED regardless but understand why you might not.

We have a bright many windowed living room in Dubai and the Sony X95 is great with reflections.

After a lot of research I think the Samsung 95T might fit the bill - has anyone got one of these as a day time set in a bright room?

We have just upgraded to a 65" 95T, which is on a wall at 90 degrees to four big south-facing windows.

The anti-glare coating on the screen is good, but still a few hints of reflection - much better than the 55" screen it replaced. Overall very happy with it.

We were in a similar position and went for a 55Q90R over an OLED and it works well for us.

Buy the TV with the best picture. OLED surpasses LCD screens by some margin, so that would be my advice.

Then mount the thing on a cantilever wall mount. You can then slightly adjust the angle to the TV away from the source of the reflections. It’s the only way I’ve ever found to get around this issue, without going to the extremes of blackout blinds etc.

We have a QLED and a OLED and I honestly cannot tell the difference, both are epic

Suppose it is all a personal experience and more importantly what people are happy with. Blacks for me all day.

I just bought a CX and it’s not as reflective as I thought, it’s on the opposite wall to a south facing window with just a simple venetian blind and it’s fine with the blind closed. Great screen.

I ended up with the CX as well in the end - i agree that it’s not as bad as I thought it would be. The odd scene can pick up some reflections during daytime, but I don’t often watch tv during the day, and if I do, it’s usually sports highlights or cartoons (for my son of course...)

My CX is arriving tomorrow... smile The plasma we've got is just too long in the tooth now! It will be interesting to see about reflections but we've got fairly decent curtains in that room anyway if we need to block the sun out.
