65 or 75 inch tv recommendations
Discussion
Hi, looking to upgrade our tv to either a 65 inch or 75 inch but really confused as to what I need and what I should go for.
Viewing is predominantly things like dramas and sport. A few films but not many and no gaming at all.
So would I be best getting OLED or not? Brand wise I was thinking either Samsung or Sony and was looking at the Samsung Q80t. It is a lot more than the 70t and I have no idea what the real difference is.
Sound wise I will add an external speaker of some sort. It needs to go in a cabinet right at the front but has to be less than about 94cm wide which rules out a lot of the good ones on the market I’ve looked at.
My plan is to probably buy when the Black Friday deals are out there but I want to have a few models up my sleeve ready for when I see a deal.
So any recommendations for both TV and sound would be really appreciated. Budget wise probably around £2.5k all in tops, a little less would be good.
Cheers

I have a 65” CX and it’s brilliant. It was a toss up between that and one of the similar priced Panasonic which use the same panel but with different processing. Reviews indicate that are very similar but the Panasonic just has the edge for movies. The reference Panasonic at £4.2k was too much and from the reviews it seems that whilst the picture is better you’re also paying for more audio which I’m not interested in as my TV’s built in speakers will be disabled for the whole life of the unit. The lower models give 95% of the picture quality for a lot less. I went for the LG as it seemed like the best all round and has HDMI 2.1 so arguably better interoperability with future devices, not that that’s a particularly high priority of mine. I have no complaints about mine whatsoever apart from an intermittent toslink glitch but I haven’t even got as far as trying another cable or DAC yet and the plan is to go eARC ultimately.

Hi, I’m thinking of going for a Samsung 65 Q90T QLED as there are some deals on these at the moment.
This is the same one I am thinking of going for. I think the room the tv will be in is too bright for an OLED and I also get a 20% discount on samsung through my work so it drops the price to £1749. Just need to wait till room decorating started to order.

How bright does a room need to be before OLED struggles?
I’m really interested in the LG 65GX but my living room is South facing and bright so keen to understand if that’s a real issue or not.
My OLED is on the opposite wall to a south facing window. Brightness level is fine, it’s only the reflectivity of the screen which poses a problem. I have Venetian blinds over the windows which I pull when I’m watching in the daytime and it’s fine, and I’d do the same with any TV just because of the strength of light hitting the screen.I’m really interested in the LG 65GX but my living room is South facing and bright so keen to understand if that’s a real issue or not.

Good timing for a thread!
Our local specialists (who I've dealt with for years and really trust with all things electrical) have stopped stocking Panasonic, reckon they'll be out of the TV market all together soon.
So for me it was either this 65" LG https://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-oled65gx6la
Or this 65" Sony https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/televisions/a8-...
We've gone with the LG as it's more suited to wall mounting (20mm overall thickness and sits completely flush with the wall) and has the picture frame option when not wanting it to look like a telly.
Already have existing Sonos so will probably get the Arc to go with it.
