Thanks. I do love the look of it and I've not found any other brand/model that looks as good as that.

I'm a sucker for pretty displays.

Really enjoyed this thread cover to cover.
Came close to winning a few of the amps mentioned on ebay but was either outbid or seller withdrew item.

My used Cambridge 640A Azur served me well for 6 years. The right channel cuts out. None of the lights work on the front and neither does the remote.

I replaced it with a HK 970 and it’s amazing. Has a warm sound. Sounds vintage. It pairs well with my Mordaunt Short Aviano 902i. They are tricky speakers to match. Didn’t sound as good on other amps.

The HK has so much ‘sq’ I am hearing notes in music I haven’t heard before.

Toying with the idea of using the sub out. A tiny bit of low end is missing at times. I plugged in my PC speaker sub which is a Bose Concept II. It filled out the bottom end but was not as musical as I had hoped.

I think I might get a sub anyway just in case there is the odd bass guitar song that sounds better with it. Limited by space I am thinking of a Q Acoustics 3070S.
Good subs on otherwise well set up systems do far more than fill out the bottom end on the odd bass guitar song and are essential on any system, even those with large floorstanders.

It should add image depth, sense of space, atmosphere, timing. Like getting a new amp and speakers in one.

IMHO wink

Yes it did indeed. There was another dimension to the music and the MS 902i were left to perform their duties. There is so much clarity and detail the music makes my hair stand on end. I need to sort a rack though as the shelf is bowing from the amp weight. Going through all of my collection again and hearing instruments I never heard before. In some you can even hear the finger as it plucks the guitar note. Never heard anything like this before.

Looking forward to sourcing a dedicated sub.

I can recommend BK subs, they are superb value and very musical. I’ve had one of these for 6 years

If you live in a detached property then a sub is definitely the order of the day...but in an attached property, not so much...unless you hate your neighbours!

I like 1970's HiFi, some of the units in my collection:

1974 Akai 4000DS MK2.

1978 Trio KX530 Cassette deck, KT5500 Tuner & KA5700 Amp.

1975 Revox A76 Tuner and A78 Amp (Amp has had full re-cap and some transistors replaced)

1971 Revox A77 MK2 2-track 7.5/15 ips (full re-cap and calibration carried out)

1974 Revox A77 MK3 4-track 3.75/7.5 ips Varispeed (full re-cap and calibration carried out)

1975 Revox A77 MK4 2-track 3.75/7.5 ips (pic to follow) (full re-cap and calibration carried out)

1974 Akai GXC-46D Cassette Deck

1973 Akai 8080 Receiver

Bonus 1973 JVC Videosphere 'Space Helmet' TV - fully working and with the stand!

I have lots more but I need to sell off some of it now. Everything is working perfectly. Where's the best/cheapest way to sell now? Not using e-bay anymore as it has become way too expensive!

Trio became Kenwood in the mid 80s.

You know what, I knew that, but since living in US the past 22 years, I forgot :-). Kenwood seems have always been Kenwood here and there's a nice amp on marketplace near me from 1976

I love the Trio gear; I always wanted a Trio system when I was young.

I also recognise that Akai cassette deck as a friend had one just like it. Looked like a mini mixing desk with the four faders. smile

Look for a matching Mordaunt Short Avant 309i.

Trust me on this… wink

Some lovely stuff there.

I find eBay still the best way to sell collectable electronics sadly.

Despite the large cut in fees the price you can command on there tends to be very strong and you get it out to a large audience.

My latest finds.

Apparently the cd player skipped and the amp had a channel that was intermittent.

These gen of marantz CD players can struggle with CDRs ( what seller was using) and after a clean of the lense with isopropyl alcohol it now works as expected.

May mod it for the CDRs but not fussed for now.

Dirty balance Pot for the amp, again isopropyl soaked into it has sorted that but will prob take it off the board and strip/clean/lube it properly as I cant find an exact replacement at the moment.

Also got a old Kenwood tuner.

Not a bad find for £50

Cyrus used to be the electronics arm of Mission once upon a time IIRC, not surprising they go well together.

I raise you in the quirky floorstanders - Shahinian Obelisks

In their final configuration driven by a pair of bridged Meridian 559's (approx 1KW per channel!!) the low volume bass control was just sublime - no substitute for power!!!
My dad has a pair of these. They have rotted out, unfortunately, and need a complete rebuild. He asked me to do some research for him, and I tracked down a specialist who could rebuild them, and then dad didn't do anything about it. So they just sit there unused in their lounge and have done for decades.
You can't even put anything on them so they are utterly useless at present. frown

Dad had one of those. Probably still has it in fact.

Keep an eye out on eBay for "80% off final valuation fees" offers, as they make a massive difference (obviously).

I've got an lovely 1990's Bang and Olufsen 7000 system, which I inherited from my grandparents and which they had bought brand new.

Lovely Hi-Fi and sounds great, but I never use it and it's just sitting in the spare bedroom under a dust sheet. frown

Still miss my KA2000A. I could have used it now as part of my Squeezebox setup!

That tuner's a pretty little thing, isn't it? Although I haven't used my Arcam tuner for so long I can't remember if I still own it!

Just to add... they appear to be running one this weekend; I got an offer email yesterday.

Go to https://www.ebay.co.uk/sh/ovw and look at the "Promotional Offers" panel.

If the offer is available to you it will be there, and you will need to click on 'Activate'.
