New to Sonos but thought Id ask the question - are there any other make of speakers that are compatible with the Sonos system. When I say speakers I mean Smart speakers or any amps that are sonos compliant? I have an outdoor bar with 2x bose 251 speakers in they sound good but id quite like to tie them up to the Sonos system and feel that 2x One SL's wont sound as good.

You can use a Sonos Port (£400) which has line level and digital out to connect to your own amp.

Alternatively they do the Sonos Amp (£600) which (as the name suggests) has a built-in amplifier, so you can just plug your speakers in directly.

Neither are particularly cheap for what they are.

I'm using older models of the Sonos Port purely to act as the streamer, then feeding the digital output into external DACs and amplifiers in 4 different rooms.

After hearing some of the Sonos speakers, I was not impressed, so am using the flexibility of the Sonos system but all with my own choice of DAC/amplifier/speakers.

Ikea do some speakers - the Symfonisk range. They are the only 3rd party 'Sonos' speaker.

Agree 600 pound for an amp is pricey. My yamaha music cast amp was around 300.

The simple answer is NO. other that Ikea for some very weird reason - But it just works and does what it says on the time (most of the time)

And IMPO they have really lost their way in the market.

Yamaha Musicast and Denon Heos have Amps that connect as well as matching Sonos items.

Bluesound is a similar Sonos product, but has NAD, Monitor Audio. Dali and someone else (anounced this week) as manufacturers - found it Peachtree

Then you have Roon, which have limited hardware themselves, but lots of the higher end brands are Roon Ready or Roon Compatible.

So it really depends on what you want to achieve.

Yes, I’ve got a Sonia Port that connects my B&O speakers to my Sonos system. Was about £400 fitted and set up.

I'd like to make the music cast amp sonos but that can't really happen. It's a pity sonos is so over priced. Yamaha do a port but its 110 pound and not 400 as per sonos.

I have an old Sonos Amp (50W X 2) powering a pair of Monitor Audio outdoor speakers on my roof terrace. It works well but it’s expensive compared to Yamaha or Denon equivalents.

I'm using a Sonos Connect with a pair of Linn LK100 amps and a two pairs of Mission 751 speakers (ignore the Scandyna speaker on top - it's just parked there awaiting attention for another project)

I also have a Sonos Connect providing an input to a big Denon AV Amp and Kef 5.1 speakers so the front room can be a part of the Sonos ecosystem. Again, works well but expensive compared to the competition

There’s a few guides floating about that show you how to use the processor from the IKEA speakers and connect it to any other speaker you like. It’s just crimp clips too. Worth a look if you’re handy with a screw driver. Search for IKEA symfonisk hack,

As others have said, it depends what you are trying to achieve.

If you just want to get a line level or digital signal to an existing amp and speakers, then there are tons of solutions depending where your media is stored (eg, streaming from Spotify, local NAS, direct from a phone)

Same if you only have the speakers - loads of options for Amps that can deliver streamed audio.

The main reason to use the sonos amp is if you already have a load sonos speakers (or plan to). It’s got a good interface if you want to steam from local NAS as well.

I already have the One's in the kitchen so wanted to have them in the summer house. I might try this hack.
