We all seem to be doing a lot of shopping and thought we could have a thread to go Oooohhh-Aaaahhh at new shiny things.

It's been a busy few months for me on my kit, over the last few months I have stumped up for.

NAD T778 - A fantastic piece of kit. Sounds great to me, has a fantastic streamer built in, and Dirac is a game changer.

Q Acoustics Concept 40 - Picked up for decent money as they are discontinued. They sound great! Replacing a pair of Q acoustis 2050i and they are significantly better especially in the upper mids/treble. (Got an unexpected bonus from work so these only cost a couple of hundred quid).

Last buy totally not least, Just ordered a Gyrodec/T3. I have wanted one for so long. Much more turntable than I need, but look at it!

A timely thread.

I have just yesterday and today ordered a pair of Graham Slee Proprius power amps and a pair of Harbeth C7ES3 speakers.

With cables and stands about £5k.

My current Roksan cd player plays straight into the power amps without need for a pre-amp.

Very much a system focussed on classical.

A Consonance ST-100 tonearm. I reviewed a Consonance deck with one on about 12 years ago and was really impressed -this is the first one I've seen for sale not fitted to a deck.

And a pair of Goodmans Achromat 400 speakers. They are tatty, have no grilles and only three of the six drivers work currently, but they were £30 and 6 miles away from me. They're one of the few pairs of Goodmans speakers I've not tried and I couldn't resist!

Not a fan of the Gyrodec sound (they haven't really kept up with technology, it's still a late 70s/early 80s turntable design, things have moved on a long way since then), but i could watch one all day - are you buying the full version or the SE?
Also how long is the waiting list now?

How have things moved on? A turntable was required to spin silently and at the right speed 40 years ago and that hasn’t changed!

For me, the Gyro is one of those designs that got it so right in the first place, there has been little need for change since. See also the SME V.

The design has stayed the same yes, but the design is the USP. Just like any other turntable design has stayed the same - but every component will have been revised or upgraded since launch.
80’s design YES - 80’s tech NO

I heard one years ago and have lusted after one for seemingly ever. But yes, if I am honest I'm getting it as much for what it is than what it does.

Went for the Full version for practicality/dust mitigation, and I was told 14 weeks when i ordered.

Materials technology has moved on in a big way.Have you picked up a Rega Planar 8?
Try it and also check out the reasons why it was designed the way it was.
I was fortunate enough to be able to try several turntables and picked the Rega (RP8 when i bought it) over all of them (including the Gyrodec).

The fact that I could buy an RP8 with an arm that was much better than the T3 tonearm fitted to a Gyro (essentially a Rega copy) and also complete with a very good cartridge for less than the price of a Gyro without a cartridge (Still the case today with the Planar 8) sealed the deal for me.

Great purchase! As you say stunning to look at as much as listen to. I've got a Rega P3 which while I like the sound, it isn't much to look at!

I have a Funk firm GETT! at the minute. It really is a fine sounding little turntable. I may experiment with the arm on the Gyrodec.

There is also a Dual CS510 in the loft that I was given. Gave it a service/clean/lube/belt and it is pretty good. they made them well in West Germany!

I have not picked up a Rega Planar 8 but I am very familiar with it. However, whilst i have nothing but respect for Rega, their business and their superb success as a British company, I'm afraid my idea of turntable design does not exactly tally with Roy Gandy's!

Whoop Whoop.

First impressions. It's a bit of a pain to set up, but sounds amazing.

Looking good! And whilst it is a bit of a faff to set up, it'll stay on song for years without attention, unlike other well-known suspended turntables I could mention...

Decided to dip my toe back into vinyl. Had a demo of this a while ago and thought it was great, pretty neat set up and looks good and compact.

Retails at £1200 but got it off eBay from a dealer ex demo for £900. It was meant to have a couple of light scratches on the speakers but can’t see anything and doesn’t look like it’s been set up.

Hopefully get it set up this week.

Be interested in hearing your thoughts on this little system. I've just sold my Rega IOas I was only using it for teams calls so a bit over the top but it really impressed me.
