I have a MKII CD63SE still in use now and it's a decent sounding player. I run it through an external DAC, but to be honest it's fine on it's own.

Can't go wrong if you pick one up for a good price IMO.

There's often plenty of good used kit on ebay.
We have an old Marantz CD53 and a Technics something or other and a Yamaha.

All sound much the same to me.
The Technics was a bargain, £40 with an amp and speakers which now serve in the garage.

I'd agree - I dug out an older Sony, after 'upgrading' to a 4k Panasonic, specifically for CD's. Never had one fail.

It is indeed in mint condition, sounds great, complete with remote (with new batteries) and original manual.

Great result! I sold a few bits of older kit on ebay a few years ago - it was purchased by people collecting 'Vintage hi-fi gear' which I found rather sobering as I purchased most of it new in the 90's!

Quick update.

Very happy with the Marantz. However, wandering round a car boot today I spotted an Arcam CD72. About £400 new in 2003 I believe - so newer than my Marantz., 24 Bit Burr-Brown DAC, Sony mechanism.

On ebay the go from about £120 in working condition. £80 spares and repairs.

I paid the princely sum of £7.

Now I was thinking I may have a heavy silver paperweight, but it would be worth £80 for spares and repairs if a dud.

Connected it to my Arcam amp, power it up expecting nothing.

It sounds absolutely FANTASTIC.

I also have one of those, plays DVDs, CDs SACDs and DVD-Audio discs but it now has a severe vibration when it spins up.
