Was listening to Avalon by Roxy Music this morning.... not high res, but nicely produced all the same. Anything Bob Ludwig touches is normally good...

And for this morning's audiophile exercise, my children have forced me to realise that the production on the Frozen soundtrack is average, at best.

Anyone mentioned portishead - dummy yet? The original album pressing and the production in general is superb.
Superb sonically.

I seem to remember there was some quirky audio phasing on "Roads" which when merged with road noise in most cars gave a quite odd experience.

Right. I've lurked in this thread long enough....

First, there's some outstanding choices here everyone, and it's been great to discover some artists I've never heard before, so thank you.
Second, to recap some earlier comments: AC/DC Live is one of life's joys. Each and every track is faithfully performed with such an energy, specially Shoot To Thrill and Sin City. Also, I'd forgotten just how much Tinita Tikaram's voice gave me goosebumps.

And to my choices - this is about as random a list as you're going to get; Don't judge me.
Metallica - The Black Album, specifically Wherever I May Roam; Master of Puppets, Damage, Inc.

Master of Puppets and Damage Inc are of course on the 1986 album 'Master of Puppets' which sonically, is completely different to 1991's 'The Black Album or 'Metallica' as it is officially called. I would say Master of Puppets is the better album, but The Black Album is sonically stunning. My favourite is 'The God That Failed'.

For those that like mostly heavy music or heavy bands, these songs are particularly well recorded:

Take the Power Back - Rage Against the Machine (Self Titled)
Chocolate Chip Trip - Tool - (Fear Innoculum)
Windowpane - Opeth (Damnation - Remixed) Steven Wilson produced and remixed.
Digital Bath - Deftones (White Pony)
Nutshell - Alice in Chains (Live - Unplugged MTV)
Falling - Haim (Days are Gone)
Darkness on the Edge of Town - Bruce Springsteen (Darkness on the Edge of Town)
Stay (I Missed You) - Lisa Loeb and 9 Stories - (Tails)
An Innocent Man - Billy Joel (An Innocent Man)
Release the Dub - Clutch (Jam Room) - natural sounding drums, imaging.
Simple Boy - Karnivool (Sound Awake)
Please - Wheel - (The Divide EP)
Miasma - Ghost (Prequelle)
Refugee - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (Damn the Topedoes) The snare drum is the king here.
The Outlaw Torn - Metallica (Load)

I think you need to Let It Go for your own sanity.

A Forest 12" single version by The Cure.

Having been reminded of it by final episode of The Gold. It sounds great in my car.

Most of Trevor Horns productions sound incredible to this day, and have not dated at all, given how relatively primative the technology was back in the day. He seemed to master the blend of sequenced/sampled Fairlight work with traditional instruments.

Ie FGTH Welcome to the Pleasuredome:

and any excuse to post some of his Live work, clearly not so immaculately produced, but one of my favourite youtube clips of all time:

Agree with anything produced by Trevor Horn. The Buggles' 'Age of Plastic' album has great clarity and dynamics. I still listen to it.

Trevor Horn is a genius, equally anything with Quincy Jones hands on it generally sounds stunning too

I was listening to the re-mastered Alf by Alison Moyet in high res.

It was close to getting a mention on here as the instruments sound great - but her voice doesn't sound good at all... not sure why, very thin sounding - yet she does have a super set of pipes!

Jazz is my thing and soooo many jazz recording are superbly done - and yet the genre is quite niche in comparison to the main stream.

Not what I’m usually drawn to, Beyoncé - Daddy lessons. Horns, vocals, guitars are crystal clear, and boy does it have bass!

Tranceportation by Sonar with David Torn has some interesting and well recorded tracks. The first track, Triskaidekaphilia has some deep bass for those that can.

Wicked Game - Betoko.

An excellent electronica cover of the Chris Isaak classic. Like much of Above & Beyond's stuff, nicely produced without being overcomplicated, but with plenty going on.

And the bass. If you have a sub, you are in for a treat.

Trampoline (Jauz Remix) - Shaed. I mean, it's dirty. Very dirty. And the bit where the track just stops and there is an instant of silence, is magical.

And again, have some bass capabilities handy!

Just back after the Oslo HiFi show at the weekend.

Take a listen to The Sound Of Silence by the Ghost Of Johnny Cash.....
The acoustic version? Johnny sounds pretty close to the listener!

Have you tried Fink and Trouble's What You're In? It's on a live album - very good.
I just have to say Thank You...

... and I hate you.

That Fink album appears unobtanium in a physical format but is amazingly good so I neeeed it and may have to break my stance on not buying download-only music...
