Just listened to this through my new Aune AR5000 headphones. Stunning. Blown away by the Aunes - my first open-head headphones and great value for the 250 I paid.I feel like my posts are all about bass but....I don't care.
This track has some of the deepest I've heard - and a phenomenal vocal by Geoff Castelucci:
Sound of Silence: https://open.spotify.com/album/70Ey5Ivd0iqyeFRJKdf...
Lovely production, naturally.

Gregory Porter records some very nice sounding vocals - the track Illusion is worth finding - there are a few more besides that.I just played Sound of Silence mentioned above. Lots of low bass in the room. I'm not so sure about the singing, it seemed a bit forced to be as low as voices go.
I measured part of the track at the normal listening position to see what the actual low notes were. Some 18Hz was very evident, plus even more 26 and 29Hz. Then the harmonics at 36, 52 etc.
Impressive. This is the 10-200Hz view in REW using the RTA analyser, this is the peak view with the mic on the settee with me.. The system was at normal listening level ...

Absolutely.
There's something about just sticking a mic in a room in front of some musicians and forgetting about the whole studio thing
I think Neil Young does a lot of stuff like that - on Tonight's the Night they definitely forgot about the whole studio thing and probably most other things too, maybe that was the point... They've just released a 50th anniversary pressing - I've ordered the vinyl version, even though I don't usually chase rereleases/special eds, as there are a few more tracks than the original [Joni Mitchell is on one of them], but let's see about the 'added clarity...'There's something about just sticking a mic in a room in front of some musicians and forgetting about the whole studio thing

I put Talking Heads - Live at WCOZ 77 on last night and it immediately made me sit up and take notice - stunning clarity for a live album recorded 48 years ago. One of the best-sounding live albums I've heard.
Holy f
k, whatever the sound engineers did with recording and mastering that is absolute magic. It sounds incredible - the drums in particular sound so immediate, crisp and punchy. Stunning.https://open.spotify.com/album/7APyWk2KP5n6zMDNMEa...
