Sonos May 2024 update

It does not seem to be getting any better. They released a new update yesterday and still not access to my music library. I have changed the inferface protocol to SMB2 and it says it can see the music and that it is indexing it. Indexing completes after a while as I have nearly 13000 tracks but then there is nothing shown nor any indication that I have a music library. No problems accessing my music library on the NAs from any other software so this is all Sonos crappy software. Thank god I have Roon as that is what I am now using. This must rank as one of the most ill thought out and amateurish software updates I have seen from an established software company.
That worries me as I was considering building a new NAS since Sonos decided my SMB1 NAS was no longer supported. Think I'll wat it out a bit. Honestly, since they took the shine off my system, I have found myself just not bothering to use it at all. This happened with the TV when all the apps fell out of support and I no longer use that at all. I am currently listening to music with my headphones and enjoying it just as much. My Sonos kit will end up on eBay before long.Mars said:

This is what has happened to me.It does work "in a fashion"
A couple of my regular podcasts have just vanished so I have to go to that app and then cast.
It's still as laggy as fk.
Regularly takes two or three times to find my system
It's just a PITA to use.
Update
Music Library has now mysteriously appeared - I have four NAS systems two Synology and two Qnap. All are configured to use SMB2. Three of the NAS have now appeared and the music is now accessible and playable. You can search the music library etc as in the previous Sonos software but it is noticeably very laggy compared to what it was prior to the update.

I may have posted this earlier, but I use Roon to control my (now reduced) Sonos zones. Roon is rock solid and has never lost my library - the Sonos app is junk.
Thanks. I'm looking into Roon now. I'm going to see if I can get the Linux version of their server to run on a Raspberry Pi. If I can, I'm going to fully move over to that. It seems to satisfy every need that Sonos used to answer.Puggit said:
Wow - email from the CEO today. Approximately 2.5 months since the almighty mess.
What on earth is going on there?
I really think they have fked it What on earth is going on there?
Mine will work "in the end" but needs messing about with more or less every time
And there's still a lag, meaning you never know if you have actually changed the volume or pressed pause for a few seconds.
Makes using it a chore, not a pleasure
Will be getting ditched over time.

I was an early adopter of Sonos - it was, pretty much, the 'gold standard' for wireless streaming. I recommended it to many friends and some, with monster homes, invested heavily in the Sonos ecosystem. I was running a modest 5 zones at one point. Now down to two - but controlled by Roon. What on earth is going on there?
Starting with the offer to junk existing systems and killing the CR100 controller, Sonos worked hard to alienate customers! I would never buy another Sonos product.
I have sorrted my issue sort of. My app would never work, couldn't find speakers (I have 5) , and generally I gave up using it.
I found online if you turn the 5gz radio off on my bt router it sorts it and it does which is great,
I have noticed my wifi doesnt work as well though and has dropped from 250mb to 50mb on average now becuase of this.
I really shouldnt have to decided if my sonos works or my broadband is fast though should I!

It's good the CEO has 'owned' the issue I guess. So many companies get butt hurt from criticism these days and file deformation law suits on reviewers, so it's good to see Sonos are seemingly being mature and taking it on the chin.
I just hope it's not just a placating exercise and they will actually improve matters.
The app for me is dog slow, and volume via my phone buttons no longer works. I have to use my sausage fingers on the tiny and unresponsive slider instead, which is super annoying. Firing up a Sonos radio station seems to take forever. It really is shockingly bad.
This is what I don't understand about big tech companies. They got into the business in the first place because they either had a USP, or felt they could offer something better than their competitors. It's all good for a few years, and then they just go and fck things up for no reason. I don't get it. Consumers hate inconsistency and change for the sake of change.
Anyway, baaaaaaah, rantathon over. Sonos, sort yourselves!

Read this yesterday following a link from the app (which didn't work until I chased the app and reopened)What on earth is going on there?
An extended time line to solve basic issues.
Pathetic.
Oh boy. Things may be about to go very badly.
I’ve been avoiding upgrading software for some time. I’ve just noticed that Sonos are now holding me to ransom. They have removed support for my paid streaming services until I upgrade.
I made the mistake of going all in several years ago. My system spans the farce of Sonos 1 to Sonos 2. They have bricked my system several times. Only a hard reset of everything gets me restored. If I’m forced to upgrade software I’m probably being forced to kiss goodbye to half my kit for no reason.
