Oh well, I’ve gone for the Samsung.
Should be hanging on the wall sometime next week then the merry go round of shuffling tv’s around will begin. smile

Looks like, it's a big TV already, I have a 100' projector setup with a similar viewing distance, its very immersive for gaming but can feel too big as sitting that close means your eyes can only focus on part of the screen. Sitting that close (about 1.5 meters) also really pushes the 'need' for 4K (and beyond?).

Cannot see what kind of sound setup you have, but if you already aren't running a dedicated AVR+speakers+sub, might be more worthwhile improving the sound setup. You will be surprised at how much better sound staging you can get with some old/cheap floor stander speakers + amp versus a sound bar, especially if you also listen to music.

Sorry but I don't know how you live with the position of that centre channel speaker.
Won't matter when the lights are off?

wink

If it bothers you, just a reminder that most Samsung's if not all, do not do Dolby Vision - might be worth checking the spec sheet.

No Samsung has Dolby Vision but in no way should that be a deal breaker on its own.

Quite agree Dicky - just making sure that the OP is aware having forked out a fair amount for the upgrade smile

Turning the lights off makes a world of difference, the sound is fantastic regardless of the imperfect central speaker placement. The £1k BW soundbar in the living rooms is like a £5 ASDA speaker in comparison to the near 2 decade old speakers paired up with a 10 year old AVR setup. Will run the audyssey setup this weekend as the electricians have finally finished in the room.

I’m very lucky, I seem to eventually inherit Jim’s (renmure) cast offs, so by my reconning I’m due an 86” tv in a couple of years and I’m looking forward to my 100” tv a couple of years after that😜

Haha. You still need to collect a 22 inch Philips CRT Telly with a built in VHS tape player first smile

I was thinking the same thing. Not sure whether that or the fact the screen is off by miles annoys me more.

Agreed, it would send me bonkers.

My little man cave, 100" screen, ultra short throw projects, Atmos - its bloody awesome smile;

Oh well, a couple of weeks later and the deed was done today with the Samsung QLED now on the wall. A bonus is that it feels like I've upgraded the tv up in the summerhouse to an 86 inch one for free. Man-maths at its best methinks.

Have to say, it is noticeably bigger than the 86 inch that was there before, which is a bit of a relief. It also sits slightly lower on the wall. Whether I'll actually notice any difference in picture quality might take a bit longer to suss out but so far so good.

For now it’s the same Denon sound bar and bass speaker that I was using previously. Again, I’m not an audio geek and only bought it by following a thread on PH a couple of years ago when it was recommended by someone who did seem to be an audio geek. To my ear, it’s great.

At some point I may stick my head up into the small
Attic and see what the inbuilt 5.1 system in the ceiling does but for the couple of hrs a week the telly will be on I’m happy for now with the soundbar.

A 100in TV for a couple of grand seems insane value to me, the rate of change is eye-watering.

My 75in only just made it round the bend in the stairs so I think any upgrade will have to wait for an upgrade in house.

Jim

I wouldn't bother about the in ceilings.
To me they're too close together to give decent Left/Centre/Right effects and I also suspect they fire straight down rather than at an angle which they really should do if you want a decent sounding system.

Thanks, I think I'll take that advice.
There's a central media cupboard in the main part of the house and speakers built in to the ceilings of a number of public rooms and a few bedrooms with wall panels to control the music around the house. It's fine for background music but a bit tinny in sound. I found a button in there that lets me add the games room ceiling to the group and it's equally tinny up there as well. It would probably be easy enough to upgrade to a better system and speakers as all the gubbins seem to be in place but hey, all I ever do is listen to Radio 2 so I'm happy enough smile

I wouldn't write them off especially if you go down the 'Atmos' route. I love Atmos but sadly my Samsung Atmos sounbar (with Atmos wireless rears) don't allow/support extra Atmos speakers that I'd love to fit in the ceiling.
