Just wondering is this an age thing?

i'm 41 and believable characters is pretty high up my scale for an enjoyable film. regardless of all the plot holes the characters were idiots and unlikable.

are you perhaps a younger gentleman or am I way off the mark here.

The film looked good but beneath the veneer it was just chip board.
I'm 26 but I do enjoy a wide variety of films. Sci fi especially. I have films ranging from standard sci fi flicks to asian and obscure russian ones from the 70's.

The characters were indeed hard to swallow at some stages. I found Fassbenders character absolutely fantastic though. I also like what could happen with the story from here. I like that it hasn't answered any of the questions and that as an audience we feel as frustrated as Noomi does in the film.

I liked Lost too.. that might explain it.

2001 was completely unintelligible until the internet came along, then suddenly it became enigmatic because everyone could look it up, nod wisely (like they knew it all along) and just appreciate the art. On the other hand Prometheus doesn't have an explanation, just holes, but it only requires the tiniest bit of imagination to fill in the gaps. Ok that doesn't make up for some of the daft characters, but 90+ pages of geek-tantrum over a popcorn flick... seriously?
There's rather a lot of inverse-snobbery in that statement.

The irony is that it is those with 'the tiniest bit of imagination' that are ripping the movie to shreds rather than just stuffing popcorn into their vacuous heads and going "oooh, pretty!"

I loved it. Many people did, just not many of those people are here on a car forum backing up the film.

I can understand the criticism but 91 pages of moaning about plot holes is quite a struggle to get through.

I'm 42 and liked it a lot even though there's massive plot holes etc.
I shall also be buying the directors cut bluray when it's out.

What I'd love to read is Ridley's version of events as to WHY there are so many plots holes

I saw this wish I had seen it in the cinema tho bet in 3d it would've made up for the short comings in the plot.
It wouldn't.

Charlize theron and Naomi Rapace actually sat on my lap while I watched it wouldn't have managed that trick.

Well, maybe. wink

Some bizarre reasonings here, are people not allowed to be felt let down by an over-hyped, poor to mediocre film? It's a poor film when compared to the best. This is Scott's fault. It's an OK, mixed up yet ultimately unfulfilling film when it stands alone

It would if supervagina had clonked itself to my face.

yes

The 3D was very well done though.. used subtly and mainly for adding depth rather than "OMG THE SHIP IS IN MY FACE!!!!!!11!" moments.

Just watched it and really enjoyed it. I have to say I thought the score was a bit "Star trek" though in places which didn't really fit the tension. Fassssbendy or however you spell it was excellent.

And that, in a nutshell, is the power of this film.

Well i really enjoyed the film. Im no sci fi nut, or movie nut for that matter. i just sat down and watched it for what it is - a good sci fi yarn - and it was good.

Ok, so there might be plot holes etc, but then i suspect most films have. Judging from this thread, its certainly got people thinking and talking about it, which is what producers want i suppose.

I'm sure the producers would prefer that I wanted to buy it on DVD when it came out, or watch the sequels. Which I won't be.

The mrs nearly brought this on Blu ray whilst out shopping last night, I told her not to ( we are watching the pennies at the mo) but DID decide to watch it on Box Office this afternoon.

Not buying it was the best blu ray decision I have ever made.
Found myself talking to friends on Facebook halfway through.
Absolutely rubbish compared to what it could / should have been.

Having just watched it again can I just answer 1 point thats often raised...

Its about how shaw is able to run around having just had a caeserian section. The part of her stomach thats opened is heavily sprayed with a yellow anaesthetic and from that point on she jabs herself at least twice (three times if you count a deleted scene) with further pain retardent drugs which, as its the future, could make Morphine seem as effective as juju.

scratchchin I'm still thinking about the other issues but having watched the commentary version and seen how much thought and discussion went into the final cut of the film I'd be surprised if all of the criticisms levelled against it were valid.

Lets just cut all the crap and everyone admit -

IT JUST WASNT AS GOOD AS IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ... by a long way given the budget and time taken..

Have you seen any smack heads running around. Super charged future morphine takers would just want to lie on the floor dribbling.

What did the commentary say about the crew being dicks and the biggest dick who happens to be the map maker getting lost while in constant communication with the ship? Or the captain that didn't give a fk about them even though they were his responsibility.

Or scientists seeing alien life for the first time and being tottaly underwhelmed or scared.

Lets face it, its poo
