Not sure why people have a hard on for slating alien 3 given the alien franchise it's a bloody solid film.
The biggest problem for Alien 3 was coming off the back of Aliens.

Plus the fact that the theatrical release was full of holes - holes that were thankfully plugged in the later special edition. The SE is a much better movie.
Alien 3 gets lots of stick.

I have no idea because I love it. I think it's as you say just not enough guns blasting like aliens.

Back to character driven suspense. I thought the casting was excellent.

Alien³ had good points and bad points. It had very god acting (looking at the actors, no surprise there), and a nice arc, but parts of the story and the 'updating' of the story were very ropey and it showed how the turmoil of the creative process affected the final product, bit of a dogs breakfast...I think of it as a classy failure.

For anyone near an Odeon cinema, and doubly so for anyone with a Limitless card, April 26th is an Alien night - Prometheus, Alien Directors Cut, 14 minutes of Covenant, and a few other bits, and then an early showing of Covenant on May 11th https://www.odeon.co.uk/film/2017/alien-covenant-s... . £20 a ticket, free on Limitless.

Who would want to see 14 mins of covenant early?!

I firmly have this in my 'most likely crap' box. I refuse to get excited after Prometheus.

the idea for Alien 3 was fantastic but they messed it up with the audio in places
I have the box set and when you watch the directors cut it's a complete mess!

Aliens (Alien 2) didn't convert to bluray at all, tons of scenes are out of focus but that's another story! and the colours never seemed right..almost too much blue.

IMHO Alien without doubt is the best if you count story line, acting, cinematography be that DVD and especially bluray.
I have a feeling the next movie will be like AVP2, no real story and just CGI effects but hope I'm wrong.

You used to be able to read the alternative scripts online. They "leaked" somehow. I read all of them. Some were total crap, others (the ones mentioned in the article below) were awesome.

Here's William Gibson's script. It was waaay better than the film that got made, IMO. I have yet to see the re-cut version, though.

I'll see Covenant. Probably not in the cinema, though. A first for an Alien film for me...

Apparently (or so I have heard) - Covenant is supposed to borrow heavily from some of the early scripts of Prometheus - and may actually be the movie Prometheus should have been.

Alien 3 has one of the most interesting development cycles of any major picture. With the amount of studio interference it's amazing we got anything watchable, but the Assembly Cut is definitely better than the theatrical release. This vid goes into a bit more detail

Well tonight was Alien night at Odeon (and apparently Cineworld did a similar thing), Prometheus and Alien director's cut.

With the exception of the obvious silly bits (trying to pet the snake creature and running downhill from the rolling spaceship), on a second watch it's a pretty good film. Alien is a classic though, I've seen it and the dvd extras and the documentary stuff a lot. Not bored of it at all.

Don't, please just don't. We've already had 132 pages of it!

That's probably the most interesting part of Prometheus so far.

I wonder if it links to Covenant?

Will be very interesting to see more of the Engineers.

Not impressed. Who is he talking to? I hate stty exposition in a film, very poor story structure. I hope that's the only example of it. Feels like it was written by a 7 year old.

I'm betting that he doesn't wake her up. So she's only a few scenes...not long to wait now to find out...
