If you want to see boring superhero movies, check out the Nolan Batman Trilogy
Somebody will surely be along with that Joker picture... My problem with the Batman Trilogy is that the admittedly decent plot\character development pieces in the film aren't then backed up by the mindless explosions, there is no pay-off if you will.
Surely the whole point of a superhero movie after all the exposition and plot is laid out, should be seeing the hero in action doing what they do best in as spectacular style as possible. Avengers had plenty of this where as Batman had me looking at my watch far too often.
I think Nolan's Batman and Whedon's Avengers exist at the opposite ends of the Superhero spectrum. I like both styles, but I prefer the character driven SH stories over plot driven SH stories.
For me the other identity is just as interesting as the man in tights.
I watched a documentary today about Stan Lee, it was rather good and a portion of it covered the struggle that Marvel have had to translate their characters to screen. I think most of the Marvel movies are tosh, but there are a few good ones in there as well, when the director has understood the personalties that make the characters work. Whedon's big bonanza shows are still plot driven but he does at least respect the characters and portrays them as they should be, which makes for an enjoyable movie experience. As opposed to some of the other Marvel efforts where it's just a random guy in a suit.

Yep, I can agree with most of that, I agree that a film is infinitely more watchable when care is taken over the characters backstory and build up. I thought the plot, setup and the whole Bruce Wayne backstory in Nolan's films was awesome, however I was just a bit disappointed that when it came time to stop talking and start fighting, they didn't deliver where as the finale to Avengers was breathtaking. I just don't think Nolan is a very good action director personally whereas Whedon is top draw IMO.For me the other identity is just as interesting as the man in tights.
