Rules:
1) It has to be a moment, we're talking 5 seconds maximum
2) You have to describe it here, but not drone on about it
3) You can't rubbish another man's moment. Comment on it, but no opinionated "You're wrong" stuff.
4) No Nick Cage films are allowed, my thread my rules smile

Starter:

Andy Dufrusne emerges in the pouring rain from the sewerage tunnel into a filthy ditch, having spent a night crawling in darkness. But for him this is paradise because he has finally escaped from Shawshank. The thunder rolls and the lightning flashes and the clean rain washes the the years of dirt away..

Fin.

For me i think it has to be one of the very first films i watched start to finish without any interuptions.
I was about 6 or 7 and it just seemed to go on and on and i was fully captivated by it.
-
Then at the top of the hill
The Centurion(John Wayne): Truly, this man was the son of God.
I had a little tear back then.

Edit -Film title - The greatest story ever told.

One that sticks in my mind because I watched it recently:

The moment in Dead Man's Shoes where Richard & Sonny are having a 'chat' by the garages, in particular Richard mocking Sonny and pretending to be scared. hehe Gives you a good insight into Richard's mental state.

Also, in Requiem For A Dream, the bit with the double-ended doo-dar. Quite a sickening moment showing how low the girl has fallen to.

• 2001:A space odyssey

The part where the monolith has been and gone, and down by the waterhole, Moon-watcher uses the bone as a weapon for the first time. Awesome scene.

Also (Zack Zarathrusta) the scene "open the pod bay doors please Hal

• Highlander

The bit in the boat.

• Amelie

When the grocer wakes up, and things aren't right! hehe

• Planes trains and automobiles

Take the first 5 seconds, then the next, and the next, until you have the film from start to finish, and that is another.

I think the opening scene before that in star wars is better imho...

you see a space ship and think yeah that looks cool and oohhh...lasers. excellent..and then the Imperial Star Destroyer keeps going and going and going...

cinema changed forever.

there are too many fantastic beautiful moments in cinam but a few from my fave films would be....

Close Encounters the mothership rises over the Devils Tower.

Lord of the Rings - When Gandalf arrives back at Helms Deep...
" " - when Sam carries Frodo up the side of Mount Doom

The Truman Show - when he stops the Coach and realises things aren't right to a stunning piece of music by Philip Glass

Jaws - "smile you son of a bh"

Seven - the box scene

Fight Club - the reveal (its a better film once you know this for repeated viewing)

Guns of Navarone - the scene before they attack where Niven and Peck play off agianst each other - utterly brilliant film and a great scene...

Not sure about the whole thing, but the 'near miss' when John Candy turns into the Devil for a split second and pulling the finger tips out of the dash was priceless.

Excellent thread idea!

The Usual Suspects...the moment where Chazz Palminteri's character drops the mug in a slow motion take as the realisation hits him.

The 'attack rabbit' moment in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. OK, I was a 15yo schoolboy, but the setup and daft execution were fantastic comedy timing.

The moment in Diva, when after his most beautiful white Traction Avant is blown up, the super cool dude just happens to have another identical one.

Rutger Hauer's mini speech at the end of Bladerunner (possibly a touch over 5s).

Any Ben Stiller film - the 5s when "The End" appears on-screen. Perfect.

The very final scene in Heat (I won't spoil it for those that haven't seen it). Inspired music choice using Moby's 'God Moving Over The Face Of The Waters'

Opening credits from Bladerunner with vangelis' track over the top.

Standing on desks during class is quite a hooligan thing to do for a bunch of toffs, wouldn't you say?

That was a normal day at the school/zoo I went to! hehe

• The Hitcher

The scene where he actually pulls up in the rain to pick him up. And the scene where Hauer gets into the pickup, and waves the hankie out of the window.
