Rimmer's lines during the first two or three series are classic, I love when he calls people 'goit' rofl and during Confidence & Paranoia "quick, stab him!!!... err, meet stabbim" rofl

First two series are well done, and have a definite charm to them. However I feel that it was series 3 when things really started to pick up, with the introduction of Kryten and more varied sets. The cast play off eachother brilliantly, and it could do the serious and stupid in equal measure.

Sadly, it took a massive nosedive after season 6. Season 7 was just painful to watch, and series 8 only a slight improvement. I remember being so excited when they announced new shows and counting down the days until they were released. My God was I in for a let down. In retrospect I wish they'd just left it on that cliffhanger at the end of the 6th season

The re-hash episodes just did not work. The jokes were there, the setup was there but, it just didn't have the energy or chemistry between the cast anymore.

Who could forget Dwayne Dibley? That's still the go-to insult in my family if somebody is suspected of being a bit of a dipstick! Maybe I was just lucky smile

I used to love Red Dwarf! Still do, although like many have said, it went very stale after S6.

'you've got the brain of a cheese sandwich!' - still my favourite insult to someone, lol. smile

Dear M13,

up there with Father Ted & Dad's Army in the Noisy Best Sitcoms Ever Listsmile

It went downhill when Naylor & Grant split. You were left with the big crazy idea but without the clever comedy mortar that bound the plot together.

Peaks for me were Justice & the Curry Monster,

Jet

Very good show up until they lost Red Dwarf, and the plot. Dropped to sub par rubbish when they went stopped the live recordings.
Are you sure you are remembering it right?. The season just after they had lost Red Dwarf is one of their best IMO.

Back To Reality is an amazing episode! All of that series (5?) is probably my favourite.

Please rush me my portable walrus polishing kit. Four super brushes that will clean even the trickiest of seabound mammals. Yes, I am over eighteen, though my IQ isn't.

And another... smile

"So this is really me? A no-style gimbo with teeth druids could use as a place of worship?"

Hehe, Duane Dibley rocks! Pure genius when they invented him.

Anyone remember the 'Tongue Tied' song from Parallel Universe, series 2 I think. That was brill! Lol.

My sister bought that Tongue tied single smile. That was when we first realised that Danny aka the Cat was a dancer!

This thread inspired me to just pick up the box set - under £20 - absolute bargain!

So let me get this straight. You want to fly on a magic carpet to see the King of the Potato People and plead with him for your freedom, and you're telling me you're completely sane?

Christ that's a bargain!! I recorded all of the shows on VHS when they were on BBC2 the first time around, then bought the DVD re-releases individually as they came out.

I love RD, and I'm crossing all appendages that the forthcoming series learns from the mistakes of B2E, but I don't know if it will return to its late 80s/early 90s heyday at all...

"Remember that war - the one that lasted a long time... (the 30 years war?) No sir, a bit longer than that (the hundred years war???) ah yes sir. Now take that, and multiply it by six, and you get your golden figure..."
