No wonder people download films illegally.

They search your bags? Seriously?
Yes, its in the Ts&Cs when you buy a ticket you agree not to bring food onto the premises. This is an out of town multiscreen place and prices for food, drink and sweets are unbelievable!davepoth said:
You know what the problem is?

Odeon
Don't go to those massive multiplexes. My local "art-house" cinema puts on all the films I actually want to see, doesn't have a problem with feral youth, and will sell you a reasonably priced beer, wine, or tea to take into the screen with you. Exceptionally civilised. Mine has big comfy seats, and will also happily sell you wine / beer etc, or if you wish, you can bring your own - no problems at all.
It's a world apart from the likes of Odeon etc
I love my local cinema, shows independent films, blockbusters and has digital for theatre shows.
It's a great place run by volunteers and is in the local high school. Everybody goes to seee the film with no chatting, phones going off or any of the rudeness in the OP.

Agree entirely OP, the cinema is crap.
For the price of one ticket I can buy about 3 brand new DVDs from Amazon, and several times that if willing to go second hand, many of these being less than £1.
These films I can watch when I want, as many times as I want, in the comfort of my own home, eating food that I haven't been charged an extortionate amount for and I can pause it if I want to go for a piss.

It seems like it's only a matter of weeks between the cinema release and the DVD, and I don't feel compelled to be one of the first to see a film, so I'm quite happy to wait.

I rarely go to the cinema, when i do its because i really want to see something or as a day out with some mates.
I work on the following rules.
Never ever buy food, there's a wlko's next to our local one who sell Pick n Mix etc, no-one has ever questioned taking it in. A combo meal of drink and hot dog is £9!!
Never go within a week or so of a movie coming out, i want normally a couple of weeks, by then its usually relatively quiet.
Go for the late showings, watched Titanic last week at 9pm, was almost dead in there.
Oh and £12? my local is £7.95

Went to see Cabin in the Woods on Saturday night in our local cinema. It was in one of the smaller screens and was about 1 fifth capacity. Prebooked back seats online so no people kicking our seats, cost £5.20 each for the ticket.
I also rarely visit the cinema these days, mainly because of the price, but I've always only gone there to watch big blockbuster movies. I tend to only go a couple of times a year at the most.
IMO, you don't gain anything more from watching a Comedy or similar in the cinema than you do sat at home. But with a big, noisy film (Michael Bay's usual repartee) it's great to watch it on the big screen with surround sound blasting.
I get irritated by people in general being there though, I get there slightly early (as I do with everything) and I feel my blood pressure slowly rising as more and more people start wandering in - this is before even the adverts have started.
I'm mentally wishing everyone keeps away from me, and get annoyed if anyone sits right in front of me. Once everyone is in though if it's not crowded I seem to calm down and relax.
I remember watching Signs years ago in the cinema, worst experience of cinema going I've had, every time there was a scary bit, a group of teenage girls would screech out in panic (fair enough) but then proceed to discuss very loudly what had just happened and how they reacted. Every single time they jumped.
As for DVDs, the irony amuses me how when I buy a DVD, I'm generally punished with the anti-piracy adverts, but when I watch downloaded films, there's no such thing, just straight into the movie. Hmmm...

Welcome to Chavworld utterly NO social conception or interest in the feelings of others, coupled with fatness lazyness unemployment and obvious inability to see their reflection in a mirror or reflective object(hence their dress sense) puts us where we are,I was in a court the other day and 2"Waynettas" were awaiting their eviction hearings......all I will say is it was truly horrific to be of the same sub species.Total film count I have seen:
Close encounters of the third kind - Went with dad.
Robocop - Went with girlfriend
Friday the 13th - Whole group of us went.
Simpsons Movie - A big fan until this pile of steam came out.
Image quality is not that good is it? Film looks too grainy. I would rather watch at home and adjust my own seating/lighting and sound level.
Why the hell do people NEED to take food? I can cope not eating for 2 hours, I wont die of malnutrition.
