I rarely go anymore, if I do, it's either later on a Sunday or if I'm on nightshift and it's not a school holiday, then I go anytime during the morning when it's dead. But yes people are ignorant s, remember going to see Inception at the Imax on it's last showing, late Sunday night, about 8 of us in a whole Imax screen and the two teenage bints who were there couldn't shut the fk up for the duration of the film. It's getting like this for me at gigs as well, I go to see someone peform their music, but however loud it is, there's still some tarts nearby who think it's the best time to have a full blown conversation about work, shoe shopping, making sandwiches etc. etc. for fks sake, why pay £30 to come see a band then spend the duration of them playing their music talking and not listening and watching them? Talk in the fking pub beforehand of afterwards you s.

Similar experience to the OP when I saw Hunger Games.

Also half the theatre seemed to be genuinely shocked that a flick about children killing other children was a bit violent (12a and no blood though). Muppets

The OPs post is the very reason why 1996 was the last time I visited a cinema.

Terrible terrible places.
And I was going to brag that I hadn't been since 1980 for the same reasons. Nowadays I only watch a film if I have control of the fast wind forward

£2.50 per ticket at my local cinema, £3.50 at weekends. Still don't go as much as I like because of the yoofs talking all the time. My projector screen at home is bigger too, I can pause what I'm watching when I need a leak, and the company is far nicer too!

I think it's luck of the draw with cinema experiences these days. A good thing is to go watch it after it's been showing for a while, then there aren't many crowds, and you're more likely to get a cinema full of space. Most major cinema chains show them for 17 weeks after release if that helps anyone, go see it on the 16th week, it's what I do and works most times.

Every now and then it's crap. When I went to see the third Pirates of the Caribbean film, I was sat in front of two girls who wouldn't stop talking during the film, constantly asking each other questions, like 'OMG LOOOK AT THAT OMG WHAT YOU DO IN THAT SITUATION'. Thankfully I was young enough to be watching it with my mother, who is not a woman to take such annoyances lightly, and she sorted them out a while into the film.

Another time, I went to see 'Nine' with a few friends. The film was fairly unbearable, but sadly for a couple who'd sat at the aisle end of the row which was otherwise empty, we all sat in said row, and because we'd all bought drinks and such everyone kept going to the toilet, and the stupid girl of the group knew a girl in the row infront so kept getting up every few minutes to go talk to her. This was embarrassing and pissed us off, but the couple at the end of the row got so annoyed they got up and left.... we'd ruined what was probably a romantic evening....

I know. I used to love the movies, going near enough every week with a mate. Back then, maybe 5 years ago? It was a fiver or so.

The price seems to have gone up and up, and round here it's getting on for a tenner, or 12 quid if you want a 'luxury' seat.

The snacks have always been a ripoff, we knew that anyway.

Our cinema of choice started to ratchet the price up as I said, and the final straw was coming out to the car one night, in the complex's car park that I'd parked in for years before, to find a 'parking ticket' on the windscreen. The turds had employed one of these 'parking companies' since our last visit, but neglected to put up anything in the way of meaningful signs to say so. Upon closer inspection of the surroundings, there was one(!) piece of laminated A4 paper stuck to the outside wall of the cinema. No-one was gonna notice that! Anyway I didn't pay their 'ticket' and didn't hear anything further.

So we started using another cinema with free parking, elsewhere.

MY CINEMA GUIDE FOR PH'ER's:

Anyway OP - I've found a few things that redress the balance in your favour, that helps to counter all the things you've moaned about!

Go to the late night showings - and preferably on a Saturday - or better, Sunday night. Most people are out on the piss at 10:30pm on a Saturday, or don't want to go to a late show on Sunday because they have to get up for work. This way I find the screen is shared with maybe 10 or 20 other people at most, (and occasionally I've been the only punter in there!) and you can find somewhere to sit well away from others, and even better, if you sit nearer the front, most people tend to sit at the back. Hence, I often feel like I'm the only one in there anyway, as I can see nothing but empty seats all around - and it's much quieter.

Don't bother with Wednesday nights - 'Orange' Wednesdays mean it's packed, and your face will become 'Orange' with rage!

The other thing which helps to ensure an empty auditorium, is to wait until a film has been out for 2 or 3 weeks - especially if it's a big blockbuster type. Most people will have seen it by then.

Always book online - and book yourself a 'student' ticket. It's 2 quid cheaper, and in years now I've never had one of the kids who checks the tickets ask to see my'Student ID.'
And even if they did, I would say 'sorry haven't brought my student card, but I'm a mature student doing a PHD in gynaecology at the University of Bullst...' how likely is he to stop you going in and make a song and dance? Not very likely...

Never buy a 'luxury' seat. With the above student ticket, on a Sunday night when it's not busy, no-one ever comes in with you to show you to your seat. So you can go sit in a 'luxury' seat with your student ticket, for about half the price.
Even if they do show you to your seat, just wait until they've left and move!

If you must eat and drink (I never see the need - or at best, I take a small bottle of water with me) then take your own snacks. If you stop at a petrol station on the way, you can get identical big bags of sweets as they sell there, so no-one's gonna stop you taking them in. Or better still, if you want to take something different in to eat, just hide the snacks under your jumper or in the missus' handbag!

Try these tips - they work! biggrin
I camt believe it ive found someone as miserable and tight as myself biggrin

I do the exact same as you, order online, me amd the gf are students for the night, also online is cheaper.

Go see a film when its down to its last showing (unless its something I really want to see)

late times or early afternoon, as people have stated when the cinema is full its ste.

I went to see paranomal activity 3 a wee while ago and it was ruined by everyone talking after scarry bits or screaming when there was little tension ruining the mood and making you realise you were watching a movie at the cinema so once the scarry/jumpy bit comes it doesnt really shock you.

I used to go to the cinema 3 times a month now im lucky if I got 10 times a year.

I just tend to go to the cinema now when there is something I really want to see like the muppets movietongue out, I just download everything and watch it in the house on my 50 inch tele. All I need now is a fanta frozen machine that makes they slush puppy things they are fking amazing!

I timed the adverts at the cinema before the start of the movie once I kid you not it lasted 35 minutes before the movie started! fk I can download a film in half that time in the house.

Ahh, a thread after my own heart! I can't add a lot other than what hass already been said at great length. I much prefer ot sit at home with it on DVD and in the comfort of my own sofa. I may not haave the biggest TV going, but I do have a fridge full of beer, and control over the remote.

last time I went to the cinema, it was to watch the 3rd Harry Potter film, and damn near killed £25! To add insult to injury, the censored picture was out of focus, and sound so loud it was distorted!

So, now its at home or not at all! The upside of which means I don't have to mix with the great unwashed!

If a film is good when it come out, it'll still be good when it comes out on free to air TV in a few years time.

The last time I thought the pictures were good value, was in the 60's, Saturday AM for kids, about 3 hours for 6d.

Yes I am a grumpy old man.

Like most things in this country the cinema is going down the u-bend. Now I just wait for the films to come out on Blu-ray, they cost about as much as a ticket.

Excellent rant 9/10 !

I havent been to the cinema for over 12 months due to a combination of many things mentioned in the rant ( prices, inconsiderate d1ckheads etc ) and the fact that most brand new films are utter toss having been made using a warehouse, some green screens and an apple mac.

Cinema is rubbish and overpriced. Most films seem to be made for the sake of it, it's very rare to get one that you would watch more than once now. Hence why streaming and downloading is so popular nowadays. I remember when cinema used to be £2.50 non peak which was perfect as a kid because you could afford to watch a film, popcorn and get a drink with your pocket money. I won't be surprised if in the next few years some of the rip off cinemas go under, people just don't have as much disposable cash now that fuel and food prices are so high.

£100 to watch a film - you must be off your head. 99% of UK Cinemas are crap, the only half-decent one' are Phoenix Picture Houses which show 'proper' films; not the production line ste thrown up out of Hollywood. And the cost for snacks eek What gives these fkers the right to charge so much?!

Rarely go to the cinema these days as it's such a disappointment. Do go to the cinema when in France as film quality, cinema quality et al is so much better. And, the tickets are half the UK price thumbup

To counter the negative cinema comments. My local cinema doesn't serve snacks. Has an intermission for long films and a bar, and everyone is polite and STFU whilst watching the film.

Conversely, my love film discs arrive covered in the dinner left-overs and finger prints of the last scummy family that rented them. I mean FFS how hard is it to hold the disc by the edges; I shouldn't have to put the bloody thing through the dishwasher before being able watch it.

Just go about 3 weeks down the line, the cinema will be near enough empty and it is still the same movie...same prices too sadly but this is what me and my mates do most of the time.

No point rushing out to see the film.
