Bought this when it was released because I love the old films.

Watched it again tonight after trawling my collection for something I'd not seen in a while.

This film is brilliant, absolutely outstanding in its own right. Hooking it onto the end of the Rambo trilogy. I think hed done the franchise proud and aged Rambo with dignity. Also very gritty and realistic, a really good and largely overlooked film due to the title.

Its awful. 'Aged with dignity'!? Please. It was made for the UFC generation and is full of cringe-inducingly forced swearing, and portrays the violence in a way I find to be vulgar. Sort of like some hyped up teen screaming 'LOOK AT THE BLOOD, LOOK, THAT GUY JUST LOST HIS ARMS AND LEGS!!!!!'

Rambo: First Blood is excellent. The others....no.

Fair enough, each to their own. I thought a bit of realism went a long way. And gave Rambo a bit of dignity instead of being some mindless robot.

In case you didnt realise, war is ugly and unkind. If anything i think this STOPPED trivialising it!

Again just my opinion which is why i asked for others thoughts.

Absolutely with the OP here, great film.

First Blood is really up there with the great movies for me, two and three really not in the same class. I think 4 took the feel of First Blood but had to be big action after the lesser two and got it spot on IMO.

Are you aware of a thing called REALITY? What do you think happens when a human being is hit with a .50 calibre round? Clue, it isn't pretty. Thus film is realistic, the others glorify violence

It doesn't show people flying through the air after monster exposions. It shows foot soldiers being cut to pieces by small arms fire. Far more realistic.

I really enjoyed it although it felt like it was a mash up of 2+3 story line wise.First blood is one of my favourite films of all time and i love the character Rambo. The violence probably was a bit OTT in 4 but I feel that Sly was trying to get across what war is really like and to make people aware of what is still happening in the world today in places like Burma.

Also love the ending.

I thought it was really good when I was expecting poop.
First Blood is a classic, I love it.
Rambo First Blood part 2 and Rambo 3 were both wk.
Rambo 4 was actually a decent story, well acted and wasn't the same 2d st that had come before. It matured enough not to be predictable.

Agree with everyone else tbh, first blood was excellent and so was rambo. It was the two in the middle that were the series let downs.

It was OK, certainly dialed up the pointless gore factor. I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it again.

Think the OP really loves it ha ha. Think he had a little wk half way through thinking about all the guns.

Saw the 4th film in the cinema, and was really impressed.

I had to watch about an hour of cartoons when I got home to lighten the mood before going to bed though laugh

How many Vietnam war veterans does it take to change a light bulb?

Don't know?

That's 'cos you weren't f**king there, man!

Excellent film, by the way!

I quite enjoyed it (if that’s the right word..)

I liked the fact that it showed what happens when bombs/grenades are thrown – unlike umpteen other action movies, the hero can somehow ‘dodge’ a grenade explosion simply by diving a few feet away from it – and perhaps receive a cut that amounts to nothing more than a break in the skin. This is one of my pet hates, as grenades and bombs are lethally destructive due to the shrapnel, tearing people apart (at least those people who do not have a scripted character shield, making them impervious..)

Love it. Absolutely excellent film. Live for nothing or die for something.

Love the ending where he is back in the US.

I did read a suggestion for the ending where he was hitch hiking and picked up by a cop. This time the cop takes him to his dads farm and thanks him for his service.

I thought that would have been quite good.

R4 is a superb film. As well as Stallones top performance, I thought Matthew Marsden and Graham McTavish were also superb.

For those who think the gore was a bit too extreme, you may want to check out the extended cut which tones down a lot of it and add more dialog. I think its import only from the USA but I have the blu ray and its UK friendly.
