There is no profit. Add Edd's time in as you would do in the real world & they'd never make anything. It's telly for the spannerers amongst us.
Well clearly... hence the use of double quotation marks around "profit" biggrin

However I'd rather see, or at least be told about, the complete list of fixes required, rather than a shortened list to produce the mythical margin. A touch more realism in what is good entertainment TV.

Exactly, it would give a better base for an informed decision. I'm all for the concept of investing money in a car as a custodian until the next owner invests their wadge. I fear Mr Brewer is more keen to disguise the fact he has bought some right lemons rather than the gold he keeps pretending he's dug up bvefore massaging the figures.

No such thing as 'over hoeing' in my book.

As for the money side and the whole "£500 profit, minus the cost of a x hours of a mechanics time, the use of a million tools, a lift etc" it's best not to think about it and enjoy the show.

The money side is just to tie the whole thing together, but they do try to keep it half sensible by subbing out very specalise stuff like paint work (probably based on Edd's earlier attempt on painting two wings on an old Capri) giving an idea of what it would cost at a garage and the premis of them only doing jobs a "resonably compitent home mechanic could do"

And after all - it's world's better than that other programme...

All the stuff they had to do to the Merc and not one word about reliability, yet that pile of ste TVR S2 how unreliable was that, new rad and servo FFS.

Still its nice to see Mike getting fatter and balder over the years, his neck is disappearing fast!

Remember - Edd plays the part of you, the home mechanic.
That's the whole point of the show really. It's for people like me, and I dare say a number of people here who NEVER take their cars to a garage for anything other than MOT's.

Sorry to butt in on the current Merc topic but if anyone wants to see the WD Mustang it'll be on stage at the Wheeler Dealer Live show at the NEC Classic Car show next Friday and Saturday (we can't make it on Sunday). Apparently this happens at about 3.15, That's it, I'm done - I'll go away quietly now.... bye....

Really enjoyed this series, an excellent combination of foreign purchases, classic restorations and more modest budget fix-ups.

More of the same next year please, it never gets boring.

So is the Merc one (which I've not watched yet) the last one in the series?

It's the last one listed on the WD wikipedia. They seem to be Spring and Autumn broadcasts.

Think the Merc was a let down given the previous Isetta and Mustang

I don't think they could top those two.

I wonder if they read these comments as Edd mentioned that there would be no profit if he charged for his labour.

Most people assume that others would only do this for a profit. I'd do it as a "free" hobby if I were guaranteed to break-even. Alas, the potential of me buying a real lemon is too great.

Brilliant!!!
Indeed. I thought that was worthy of 4 fingers to add to the drinking game rules.

I'd finished my pint by the first ad break.

Good episode. Back to a reasonable budget this week.

Why does everyone obsess with going on about the labour and the profit ? Does no one look past this and see its a show about how you can buy a car and with your own skills , buy something that needs a bit of work, save a bit of money and maybe run it for a time and sell it on for more than you paid. I think its pretty clear the show isn't a guide on being a car dealer and making a fulltime living from it.

biglaugh Spot on... it has to be entertaining and based around doing up cars and jolly good it is too.
