I'm not going to watch anymore of them, I got fed up of that gobste when he was working with that Indian guy.

But I'm glad this progamme is on, firstly because it serves as the perfect "well at least it isn't..." for Wheeler Dealers, which is the full Aston Martin factory restoration in comparassion.

And I'm looking forward to when the first winner takes to the internet to vent their frustation after thinking they were winning a restored car only to find they've been passed a money pit, should make for a hell of a thread.

This show is unbelievable!! Bernie (supposed 50 years of experience-what he don't know ain't worth knowing) can't even spot a real shoddy repair job on the porker and then his supposed mechanic is 80-90% certain it's a cut n shut until the supposed 30 years experience of classic cars and self styled porsche expert Mario 'Romero' Pacione saves the day by identifying the 'real' problem, Come on Channel 5, you're having a giraffe! (That's rhyming slang for 'laugh' by the way Mario)
Aside from the copious amount of set-up arguing, shouting, shoddy, amateur, cowboy filler happy T*ts and general dumbing down, one of the many things I just couldn't believe was Mario painting the calipers with a poundland paint brush and 'touching up scratches' with it too!!
Then the numpty in the E46 this week, who supposedly is an industry expert on classic car valuation, no offence to E46 owners, but why ain't he driving a true classic himself? He turns up, doesn't get under the car, no paperwork, as far as he knows this car could be a Cat D in the past, comes to the conclusion that this bright orange lump of filler on wheels with a few second hand porsche bits attached, is worth £22,000!!
Channel 5 no doubt would try to explain that he does a much more thorough valuation etc etc but for purposes of a tv program that is approx 40 mins with adverts they need to portray it that way. However come on channel 5, it's a poor poor production using unknowledgeable cowboys who don't know their stuff basicly bodging 'restorations' of two cars and you charge unsuspecting people £1.50 a pop to enter to Win these cars. Which, in reality, need their supposed value and more besides spending on them by proper restorers with real knowledge, just to put them right.
Shame really, don't you think.
Rant over- Just my Humble Opinion
Can't wait to see em butcher an MGBGT next week- literally car crash tv!
It's probably fair to say that even though we don't like what they are doing and how they are doing it the end product is:
a) Safe - There is no way a TV company would allow something unroadworthy ot be presented as a competition prize.
b) worth inexcess of the £1.50 entrance fee for the competition.

I'm not saying I like the programme or the idiots on it, but what did they really bodge on that 911? OK its got the wrong details and it will never be a concourse car, but Im sure whoever wins it will be happy with it(no I havent entered the competition). The visual issues could easily be put right by intstalling impact bumpers or an RS look kit (about £3K fitted)then dirve and enjoy.

How many of us know the providence of our pride and joy?

I take your point on the paint. The satin black over non-prepared chrome being a good example. I'm personnally not that bothered by the Canadian bell end touching up the inside of a wheel arch with the massive brush. Like others of said it would be good to see the previous owners build thread to see what the car was really like.
I might even send an email to C5 asking about the quality of the work carried out. Their response could be interesting.

I just had a peek over on impact bumpers. The seller is on there & posted this:

The car was a 1977 LHD conversion with a 1985 engine so was never going to be original; my plan (before needing to sell) was a low key fibreglassy backdate. When Bernie told me his plan involved a Rotrex supercharger, fog lights, custom fibreglass and massive wheels I was a little surprised! The funniest thing for me is Bernie; he's a lovely guy until the cameras are rolling!

Well that's odd because the car didn't get a supercharger or custom fibreglass or massive wheels.

Granted the Davids wasn't custom....but there was plenty of it!

surely there must be some kind of grounds for a legal case against channel 5?

overinflating the value of the prize to entice the dim witted into enetering the competition and paying the £1.50 for a start?
Misdescribing the car as "fully restored" and misleading information about its history and condition.. I dont think a dealer would get away with it, so why should they. if they were genuinely "giving" the car away in a competition and not attempting to make money from the vehicle there would be a free online entry form.

There will almost certainly be a 'free entry' option available in the small print that delivers an awful lot of leeway.

Dear Mr Parabola

Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding Classic Car Rescue.

We were sorry to read that you did not enjoy Episode 1 of this programme. It is not in Channel 5's interests, or indeed any broadcaster's interests, to alienate viewers but we all provide mixed schedules and, inevitably, there will be a dissonance of views about the content, format and presenters of our programmes. However, please remember that programmes that you do not like may be appreciated by other viewers and vice versa.

Nevertheless, we are grateful to you for taking the time to make us aware of your concerns. Your comments on the programme have been logged in our Viewer Enquiries Report. This is circulated throughout the company and seen by all relevant personnel.

Thank you for your interest in Channel 5.

Yours sincerely

I guessed this might be the case! I wonder if anyone at C5 takes note of these emails.

Channel 5 viewer adviser. What a thankless, relentlessly soul destroying job that must be. Second only to being an executive chef at McDonalds or quality assurance manager at Kwik fit.

I believe they hold a sweepstake; the winner being the one closest to number of complaints received. Guess what the prize is? biggrin

As someone has already posted, it's a sad state of affairs that C5 dropped 5th Gear yet air this - and yes, I think that the broadcasting ombudsman should be alerted to the false valuation of the "prize". Imagine if they said that you could win a house worth £250k when it's true value is half that (at best)..

An hour of Bernie & co versus an hour of a show that was often better than Top Gear especially in the respect that it as more about cars than the jolly japes of 3 blokes is a bitter pill to swallow. Am I right in thinking that C5 have also taken the scissors to The Gadget Show? Guess it all boils down to money.

Whatever next? A fly on the wall documentary about Liam Griffin...? moan

They can probably sell the same ad space and without paying much at all for the program.

As car programmes go this must rank with the worst ever. I had to watch it though (this is Benjy911's dad!) as it featured the 911. What a dog the car they "restored" was. The exciting bit for me was seeing WMR 911 K which they drove in the opening shots of the programme. It now belongs to Josh Sadler of Autofarm but in 1978 at the age of 25 I was the proud owner of that car and I have the photos to prove it! At the time it was a 911T but he is trying to sell it for £69,500 as a genuine 911S which it is not! (An original U.K. RHD 1972 2.4 911S Coupe, still in its original Blood Orange and on its original ‘911’ registration). I bought it from Charles Ivey in Late 1978 and sold it to the short lived Hughes Motor Company in Heytesbury when I moved on to a newer one. Even though it was only six years old it had already been resprayed and was pretty tired. I took it through a car wash in Newhaven and when I turned the fan on to clear the screen there was all this gurgling and all the water from the car wash landed on my feet! I have had numerous 911s since then and still have one today!
