I'm not sure how much Brewer paid Ed (if that's how the arrangement worked) but it was clearly not enough for Ed to want to spend fair chunks of time away from home.

Brewer's over the top character was fun for a while and now just grates. He had to find pastures new. In the US (and no doubt globally) there seems to be an endless, credulous audience for these sort of made up 'reality' shows. American Pickers, the Pawn guys, Ice Road Truckers, Gas Monkey and a 100 more.

(I remember when all that stuff was new and I was taken in by the Orange County Choppers for quite a few episodes before the penny dropped. My reasoning was that it was on Discovery which up until then only did proper documentaries).

My only gripe, and it’s not just aimed at Ant, but the number of people these days who pronounce aitch haitch. There is only one aitch in aitch.
It really grinds my gears when MB puts an ‘h’ into a word after an ‘s’.

It’s ‘straw’, not ‘shtraw’.
It’s ‘straight’, not ‘shtraight’.
It’s ‘strap’, not ‘shtrap’.

Old Mike got a right roasting over the weekend via twitter. Sent out some message about his crew and the number of abusive replies he got so amazing. comments about Edd, being over in the Us, Us cars over UK cars, and how he's trying to be American.

Got so bad that he deleted the tweet to send another complaining about the original tweet. Was a total mess.

Although it's been 2/3 years ago people just wont forget Edd, and are no quite disgusted as Mike. He's main issue is that he reacts to the trolls, and like all trolls love.... is a good reaction.

how hard would it be to replace someone who has two lines "alright fella" and "hold your hand out". Cant say I have watched much of Wheeler dealers since it starting dicking about with the format. The one where Mike went all around the world buying and selling Cars was just awful.

The difficult part in that idea is that Mike, I believe, holds a significant amount of the value of the show in his contract. The show can't exist without him, unless he says so.

Which is why it'll whither and die in his hands. When Edd referred to the 'dead weight' in WD I don't think he just meant the portly chap with the mockney accent in the shorts and moccasins.

Every so often they did something unusual or interesting just to make a 'stand-out' show - the bubble-cars, the London-to-Brighton run, the quirky cars like the 126 and the Syrena, the 'brave' punts like the Lamborghini. I've no doubt Edd had some input into those choices and they broke up the monotony of the format.

Since Edd went Mike is now calling all the shots and has got stuck endlessly remaking exactly the same program using mostly the same cars, especially this series. I doubt Ant has had any say in what the cars were since he joined, other than his opinions on them being interpreted via Mike.

Lotus Elan M100 tonight, which is of particular interest to me as I have owned one.

Seems to be an extended major service so far - exhaust (partially fabricated by Ant), new rear screen (which they showed being done), new thermostat, cam angle sensor, new fans, a suspension control arm change,, and a professional valet (with the valet talking Mike through it).

Not a bad episode so far. And they haven't changed the clutch for once. smile

I preferred it on the aftermarket wheels. Maybe done silver though.

The original wheels are unique to the car though, so quite desirable.

Could always leave them in the boot laugh
Did you notice Brewers slack jawed expression when the chap was going the roof window?
Think the detailer should have sorted the paint too.

For a few quid why not. A old thermostat is more likely to fail than a new one idealaugh
Overall arguably the best episode of the series but the bar isn’t set very high.

Ant’s cartoon expressions do my head in and did he also bring just 1 t-shirt.

Saying that Ed’s double layered tops were so also a source of annoyance!

I love those Elans, good episode. Was it just me or did that paintwork look a bit faded?
