Are there any they'd miss?
Perhaps not in Dr Who - but in terms of scifi or TV/movies in general - there are plenty.Interestingly I cant find a single example of a gender swap for a major character (or even a minor one) that is anything other than male-->female, except in a small number of cases where there are two main actors and they are both gender swapped (e.g. The Overboard remake).
I wonder how people would react if a character like Lara Croft, Ellen Ripley or Catniss Everdeen were recast as a man.

The first two seconds on loop is fun!I thought I must have missed the start as it's so sudden, so kept hitting play - My wife came into see what I was watching!

Sarah Connor could be an interesting flip.
there are very few characters that actually require a charcter to be xx or xy, but I reckon SC is one of them, the whole thing of being a soft, doughy mother sort, who has to change into a terminator herself, it's a brilliant story...such a shame they won't let it die now, at least for a generation.Halb said:

Alien, I'll give you that. If you gender flipped Lara Croft you'd just end up making a really incredibly stty Indiana Jones knock off.
There are precious few original female leads in Hollywood that aren't already just flipped male archetypes.

There is a *lot* of bhing from 'fans' though. Who'da thought gender was such a big issue?
Perhaps we should try swapping a few traditionally female roles for male - and see if the bhing only happens one way.Ripley and Katniss, it wouldn't make sense to have a different *actress* in the role, never mind bending the gender. James Bond got away with it, but there's no story arc to maintain.

They cloned Ripley and brought her back from the dead with memories intact as a human/alien hybrid, wouldn’t have taken much exposition to change her into a man. Moonhawk said:

Trailer does look a bit crap, and I don't like her outfit. Time will tell, anyhow.
I think her accent is going to grate.Edit: ^snap
...actually, maybe JH would have been a good call? She managed to make Bubble seem like she was from a different planet, and AbFAb isn't even SF
