Queen of the South - Mexican drug cartel type programme - Any good? been suggested on netlfix.
It's pretty brainless entertainment, nothing like Narcos or El Chapo for example. A drug baron(ess) who is hands on and taking delivery of cash, forced drug mules who seem to have the ability to come and go as they please (and even have access to pool cars) etc etc. carinatauk said:

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs - Coen brothers' collection of six short western films in one. Not a gem unfortunately, not one of the six stands out as anything special and both me and the OH were browsing ipads during the last couple.
It showed potential in the trailers, but as a western we thought Ridiculous 6 was better.V8mate said:

I noticed that series 3 of The Last Kingdom appeared on Netflix last night.
This one has been made without the BBC.
Appeared Monday morning. This one has been made without the BBC.
They must have been watching Game of Thrones since making the last series: the hand-to-hand combat, torture/execution and gruesome blood-spurting quotient has definitely increased

The film Passengers. Things with sci-fi (and every other genre come to think of it) is a) how good is the central idea and b) how well is it executed.
In the case of the above film a) excellent, deep and thought provoking and b) pretty amazing.

But I still think the original 2007 script had a better ending. From fixing the broken computer onwards was different. It's sort of obvious on screen that it was changed because it suddenly becomes a bit actiony (unlike the rest of the film) then becomes a bit disconnected and ambiguous and out of keeping with the way the story developed.
Other details were different but mostly minor stuff.
Worth a look to see what could have been.

The poster put me off, but started watching it and am liking it a lot.
i was put off by the review but finally got round to watching it and really enjoyed it, it would have made a great tv series, really stunning cinematography and reinvents the western. James Franco's bit has a hint of An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge.
I had never watched Norsemen yet, I always assumed it was a serious Vikings rival as I had never read about it or watched any trailers, but its a comedy vikings show. I should have watched it sooner as I thought it was really good, some really funny bits in it. Would highly recommend.
