We're loving this series - helps I've been there plenty of times so can infill the sounds & smells - India really is a massive assault on the senses.

Oh, and the wife is from Bombay hehe and has been to all these locations as she used to work for a film company.

Agreed, one of the best that he's done. Most enjoyable throughout.

I wonder where he kept that - given that he never has a suitcase !
I think he must have some sort of large travel chest for his outfits, transported by his valet.
His yellow trousers as he exited the Ambassador taxi in Kolkata matched the vehicle perfectly.

An unexpected treat. Looks interesting and hopefully the jackets survive the transition to C5:

Staid is the word for his dress, so far in this new programme.

I’ve been a fan of the series since the beginning, and I particularly enjoyed the Continental series, but Portillo and the team have really outdone themselves with the Indian series. I’m only on ep2 so still catching up but I think it’s the best yet.

I have never been to India and this series have really opened my eyes. Any country’s tourist board should invite Portillo around to make a programme. It’s the best advertisement. I visited a few places in UK and in Europe that had been featured in the programme. I wouldn’t have known about them had I not watched the show.

Outstanding television.

He has painted an extremely positive picture of the country so far.

My wife has filled in the gaps for the places I haven't been to.

It's probably the most interesting country to visit, regardless of trains etc.

He's becoming more of a firm favourite in our household with every new episode.

I still hear the 'him and thatcher bks' from time to time but these people don't have Welsh accents and worked down the pit. It seems to be a left brainwashing thing.

If anyone hasn't seen the various Indian Railway programmes on the digital channels (Yesterday etc) then they are worth watching. They are more of a documentary than anything and follow the lives of various people who are in and around the railways. It isn't exactly warts and all, but it seems a pretty honest look at real peoples' lives rather than just the usual tourist clichés. It is interesting to see how the railway looks after the families, almost like a country within a country. I must admit, I would love to see some of the place.

Agreed, I can recall 'Monsoon Railway', 'Indian Hill Railways' and 'India's Frontier Railways', all a good watch if you like railways and/or India. There's also 'Bombay Railway' about the urban network in Mumbai and the 'Super-dense Crushload' that it often experiences (14-16 people per square metre)...

I love him. Awesome. No idea what he is like in person but if he's anything like his onscreen he's not bad.
