Wasn't one of the main points that much of it can't be recycled & would therefore end up in landfill, surely finding a use for it is a much better prospect?

If you can save stuff from landfill AND make money then even better.

But,but,but...I cannot believe things like the seats would ever go to landfill with all those castings in them - we have 'representatives of the migrant recycling community' in here every day filching through the detritus, and they remove anything even vaguely metallic to take back to wherever and hit with hammers.

Yes I agree that some bits can be 'upcycled and repurposed' (WTF that means) but they end up as statement art pieces that would soon lose their appeal if stocked in John Lewis' the length and breadth of the country. All IMHO obv.

I got the point completely. My point is it was another made-up-for-TV theory engineered to work for the cameras (which conveniently bumped up retail prices too) where it would've otherwise been a total waste of time.
