Also it just occurred to me that when you were young and used to burn things with magnifying glasses - you were never friends with the kid with glasses so it just would never occur to you.
I conclude that Oakey was the kid with glasses burning ants by himself.
No I never had glasses as a kid I'm just recalling when one of the classrooms at my old primary school went up in flames over the summer holiday because someone left some glasses on the windowsill. Or that's what they said happened anyway.

Unless some are plants I don't see any bothering with rules.

The tattoo, was it in a star of David?

That's fair enough then.
Nothing to get knickers in a twist over.
Some strange comments on threads I've just seen.

I watched it and enjoyed it but the best bits for me:

- the ex-copper F bombing everyone pretty much straight away (calling everyone "fella")
- looking for water and settling on a stagnant pool. Ok if your desperate but go for running water!
- everyone pissing about in the sea or sleeping when they should be grafting. When the chips are down its human nature to fk about. Humour under adversity etc
- sleeping on the hard forest floor
-that guys tattoo and him explaining it! I could also tell straight away he would be first to give up.

I also spent some time wishing it would start pissing down on them. That would really make them have something to complain about. Ok it's water but there's nothing worse than being pissed on with no shelter and all potential firewood would be soaked.

Looking forward to next week as people get really cranky when they are hungry. I'm also hoping that someone causes the fire to go out which would likely fk everyone else off big time!

Amusingly he doesn't seem to know he's chosen the symbol of a UFO based Religion

yes That is amusing. Shame there's no anti-Rael extremest to take him up on it. biggrin

Have to say, with the temperature and humidity I would be struggling immensely. And be more inclined to allow the scrawny ones to go and forage for water.
The reaction to the 'beech' did surprise me. No-one on this group will be winning an Nobel award soon.

The way in which that guy from Stockport is portrayed, it almost appears to be a sketch! They made his life to be complete misery and grey, and that this was the only opportunity for him for a better life. I found myself laughing at him when he started getting worried about what they would think about his Tattoo.

I too couldnt understand how so many of them chose to exert their energies swimming about when there was an urgent need for hydration! Condensing water was also what I'd thought about, but I guess it depends on what they have at their disposal in amongst the waste.

Did anyone else see that boa constrictor and think " Barbecued snake? ".

Abos used to eat them in OZ - it didn't seem to occur to anyone that they were short of food ...plus one guy had a machete.
I did, although they lacked the BBQ at the time

pretty easy to kill although the guy who was sure it was a non-poisonous boa can do the chopping, think I would be crappng myself it was a mamba or something

There was no leadership and no division of tasks going on there. They should have established some sub teams to carry out various tasks. Water - shelter - exploration - food - three on each, at least something happening.

There is unlikly to be any running water on an island of that small a size. Possible that there might be a spring but again unlikly. However, if they had established some teams they could have been serching their surrounding area to see what else was there. Could be an all inclusive wife swaping paradise at the end of the island before all they know.

As they knew they had no food they should also have been considering what sources they have - and at least started a bit of fishing. Bunch of goons didnt seem capable of thinking past the most immidiate problems such as where to sleep and getting a fire started.

had to laugh - guy that turned up in desert pattern camos - 'ex spacial forces'? No, I.T. bloke.

Yeah, they got fixated on that pool of rancid st water which led to 3 of them sweating their cobs off getting the fire going while everyone one else ponced around cooing at the view and shredding their feet to pieces and slowly dying.

Billy Big Wheels will be appearing on Mastermind with a specialist subject of Stating the Bleeding Obvious - if he lives through day 3 that is.

Although I tip my hat and say fair play to all those who've embarked on this adventure, I think some have been either ill-advised or not advised at all and have not got a scooby what's going on.

Can't wait to see the croc wrestling though!

If these were the ones selected for the show, f**k knows what the rejects were like.

(First thing I said to my daughter when watching it - as above - they need to split up into teams, that fire'll go out during the night unless someone is appointed stoker. To be fair, they couldn't really explore the island because of those mangrove swamps, but it'll have to be their priority the next day. Maybe there IS wife-swaping, although I don't know how you do that. Do you need a sharp knife or summat?)

The copper tried to be a leader, but it was like herding cats.
Modern UK men....I wouldn't like to lead a bunch of 'em...unless I was allowed to crack heads. Only way to get things moving, smash them then assume leadership by might and then start dishing out orders.
Somehow I think the producers will have screened against any personality traits of that nature. Shame.

I always wonder how people get selected for a show like this... Where do you see applications to get on it?

There's a Channel 4 website - called something like " are you a c*ck and can't wait to tell your mates I've been on the telly and now I'm famous and the watchers will cry when I say my grandad's dead and ooohhh look at me". Or something like that.

With the amount of survival type TV programmes I thought theyd have half a clue or would at least have done some research?

Could they not have dug up stream (looked like it was a gully) of the rancid water until they found the water table? If there is water there, itll be somewhere else. No need to boil it then.
