I feel sure I’ve seen one from this season already - they are all filming themselves and Rick sets up a big fuel tank on his truck to get round restrictions?

Have I dreamt that?

They all started the season 1-2 months late due to Covid apparently, so they really will be up against it this year.

There is also a new crew this year.

Other highlights to come include (copied and pasted):

Gold miners Parker Schnabel, Tony Beets and Rick Ness take massive gambles this season as they face the worst time crunch ever as the gold fields opened two months late because of COVID-19. And joining GOLD RUSH this season is ex-special forces medic and greenhorn miner Fred Lewis who takes his destiny into his own hands as he strikes out with a band of out of work veterans in the hopes to hitting it big in the gold fields of Oregon.

Parker Schnabel arrives in the Yukon one month late with massive ambitions to expand his mining business beyond the Klondike. His goal is to bank enough gold to buy new ground and he's determined not to let the COVID-19 pandemic slow him down. As soon as he can, Parker assembles his crew and doubles down - opening two enormous operations. This season, Parker will rely more than ever on his crew to keep his operation running while he heads out to prospect new ground in Alaska and beyond. But with gold prices spiking, the cost of rich ground also goes up, so the pressure is on co-foremen Mitch and Brennan, and rookie plant boss Tyson to battle breakdowns and disasters to make the team enough gold to afford new ground.

After two seasons of missed goals, Tony Beets is ready to take advantage of the perfect mining conditions. If he can identify the last of the virgin ground on Paradise Hill, this could be a record season for him, ensuring the success of the future Beets generation. Tony is determined to hit his goal of mining out the massive Mega Cut in just one year. It's an ambitious engineering feat that require the Beets family to move massive tons of earth. To be successful, Tony will have to dig deep into his arsenal of mining equipment.

Rick Ness can't afford another season of failures. For years he has worked with mining prodigy Parker Schnabel, rising to rank of foreman. Two years ago, Rick struck off on his own. After a strong debut, he suffered a major setback last year and lost all his profits, leaving him in the position to barely break even. To make matters worse, half his crew deserted him. Rick treads a troubled track; if he doesn't turn a profit this year, his mining career is over. And he starts the season behind schedule with just two of his buddies to help him get started. But this time Rick will not let the challenges stop him from achieving success. With Karla and Kruse, he heads to new ground in the mountains above Keno - the land of massive nuggets - for his last shot at striking it rich in gold.

As millions of Americans face unemployment during COVID-19, special forces veteran and rookie miner Fred Lewis risks everything and heads to the mountains of Oregon looking for a gold mine of his own. With fellow veteran and experienced miner Kendell Madden, Fred leases a piece of ground with huge prospects. When his test run shows good gold, they assemble a band of down on their luck ex-servicemen and women eager to turn around their fortunes. Following in the footsteps of countless Americans who've sought their fortune in the wilderness, this band of brothers will be tested like never before on their quest to control their own destinies and hit the motherlode.

Nice.

So new crew is following in the footsteps of how the show originated, via Todd's collapse post-08 - but with veterans instead of numpty religious freaks.

Didn't realise you were into this show Sway! I've watched it since the beginning but have lost interest over the past couple of years with the Hoffman's increasing ineptitude and a lot of the fake drama between Parker and Tony.

Hopefully the new team will breathe a breath of fresh air into the show.

I'm sure we've nattered about it over chat a few times in the dim and distant past!

Yep - the first series were brilliant. Last couple seemed way too contrived and false jeopardy.

I've not watched the latest episode, but more than willing to have a go. I like Parker - his approach is really very slick.

The Hoffmans haven't been in Gold Rush since 2017!

So if you haven't watched the last 3 years due to trying to avoid Todd Hoffman (and who can blame you) then you need to go back and watch it! smile

Bit confused about this series

I watched an episode which was basically them talking about Covid and lockdown etc

Then watched a longer episode which covered some of that and then them getting onsite and Fred prospecting, is that the first episode proper?

So.. I watched the first show of the new season, and the filming seemed a weird compared to all the other seasons.
Previously they seemed to have cameras absolutely everywhere capturing everything that happened, and splicing lots of different angles and footage together to clearly make it feel a bit more 'action packed'.

But last night I noticed that there seemed to be a lack of footage for a lot of things?

There would be shouting about the 'wash plant breaking' or something, but then absolutely no footage of it happening.
Also stuff like them setting up wash plants would usually involve lots of shots of all the different things they needed to do, but last night seemed to be "Let's set the wash plant up" and then the next shot would be of it magically all done and working.

I can only assume that the film crews are working using minimal staff numbers or just a skeleton crew due to Coronavirus or something?

EDITED: Found the answer after some googling:

"Filming of Season 11 was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Though miners were considered essential workers by the Yukon government, the film crews themselves are not part of that determination. Canada having been on travel lockdown at the start of the filming season meant that the production crews from RAW TV production company were still stuck in Britain. At the start of mining, only one filming crewmember was onsite with the Beets, and Monica Beets had added on filming duties. Neither the Schnabel nor Ness mining crews were onsite at the start of the mining season, they've been at home in quarantine, mostly in the U.S. After a 2-week quarantine, a local film crew of 4 comes to film the Beets"

Also... we learned last night that several members of Rick's crew aren't coming back, and I read some rumours on a couple of sites that part of the reason is that there were big disagreements and arguments on set last year between Rick's guys and what they called "the Liberal European millennial filming crew from Discovery channel'.

Apparently Rick's guys were behaving like 'knuckle dragging flag-waving Trump voters' and this ended up in big off-camera arguments with the filming crew.

This could be entirely true as whenever we have heard the camera crew speaking on set or asking questions to the miners, they have often been young and sometimes female British or European people.

The first episode of this new series (S11 E1) is monster 1 hour and 30 min episode and the first 15-20 mins or so of it are about Rick being stuck at home and the rest of them talking about Coronavirus, quarantine and their journey to get to their mines etc.

The rest of the episode then switches to them actually getting started, and Fred prospecting etc.

Yes, probably my favourite TV programme, surprised they actually have a season, iirc there was a risk announcement (as Lord M pointed out above) around the film crews not being allowed on site.

I think we will see a ‘slower’ season as they drag out what footages they’ve actually been able to get, few more infill interviews, etc.

Doesn’t surprise me re Rick’s ‘crew’ some of them did seem a tad ... backwards, he seems a nice guy though.

Parker obviously had a massive advantage in life being from a few quid but fair play to him, some good decisions along the way with a long term ‘strategic view’, it’ll be interesting if he returns to Aus in the Yukon off season as he was talking about returning to Alaska which could potentially have an even shorter season?

I totally agree with you about Rick. He genuinely seems like a really nice guy.

I’m hoping this first episode with it’s patchy filming was a bit of a one-off and by the second episode they would have had more film crews present along with more mining staff.

Oh I've seen them all from the start, just underestimated how long the Hoffman's have been out. The rot set in a couple of seasons before the Hoffman's left though and I hadn't even thought about the show until this thread popped up in My Stuff.

Agree.

I don't watch that much TV really, but Billions, The Apprentice, and Gold Rush are 3 things I do really like whenever they come around each year.

Gold Rush is great winter viewing.

Might be better this year if there aren't a load of spare producers chucking smoke grenades into engine bays for drama.

I was slightly concerned that Fred's team might be all 'oorah, freedom!' but actually seems promising.
