We have to remember that if there weren't people who threw money at these cars in the past, they wouldn't be here for us to enjoy.
I met someone who spent £40K on a Muira restoration in the 80s and he was called crazy. The car was rotted to the core but it survived and the money is long forgotten.

FYI...M4SER IS Harry....you are talking to the God himself.
Wow. Have you considered any extra-curricular activities? Ping-pong is fun. .... you may have to improve your gags though.

More evidence that the world has gone bad. The XJ-C was a compromised low budget bodge back in the day and has Harry has demonstrated, even when 5 figure sums are thrown at them, you still have a structurally compromised vehicle with engineering flaws that the factory built into them.
The 2 door look never worked for me but would live with it if prices were less "emperor's new clothes".
Considering that £30K buys you a far superior XJS which which is a better (if still flawed) proposition, clearly, my opinion is not the common view.
I love Harry's car and am delighted that he's made such a good example out of what was a bit of a dog.
This latest video is fabulous and am looking forward to the next Fulvia instalment.
I go along with most of that, but in defence of the XJ-C I would say that it's a beautiful design and part of it's charm is that it is so compromised, I like to think that somebody said 'yeah it's inherently flawed but look at those tits, gotta have it!'The 2 door look never worked for me but would live with it if prices were less "emperor's new clothes".

I am with you on the Zagatto, it's the one car I crave amongst all the lovely machinery on display and it's been a frustrating wait for the new video (which Harry alluded to a week or so back), but part of the fun is the anticipation I guess. Come on, come on, hurry up Harry come on.

Good point about the XJC. I'd really not looked at it like that. I wouldn't for a moment suggest that the XJS isn't flawed but I see that as a replacement to the XJC than was touted at the time as a replacement for the E-type. So it looks like a really good XJC is now closer to £100K and that's what my mind struggles with when a similar S is a third of the price and I still recall the days when you'd see XJCs on Arther Dailey type car lots for £500.
The thing is, there's still loads if XJSs and not many have any love for them.

Went to Goodwood today and sat in the Emira, and ordered one.
Useable, not stupid levels of power, cabin space like you wouldn’t believe. So utterly impressed with it!

Might be a bit optimistic, but will be nice whenever it arrives.

The XJS isn't flawed, as an object. The E-type was always under-tracked, and by the SIII it wasn't exactly svelte either. The XJS was, and is spectacular. So it looks like a really good XJC is now closer to £100K and that's what my mind struggles with when a similar S is a third of the price and I still recall the days when you'd see XJCs on Arther Dailey type car lots for £500.

A bonnet that low, with a V12 beneath it? A proper longnosed GT. The buttresses are sublime (and no, for all the ignorami, they're not 'flying' butresses). The engineering shortcomings were the result of who built it, but the design is one of the greats.

I’d like to know what makes a buttress fly, but I can’t see the XJS ever achieving love status but you never know. It was another excellent near miss in my view, what might have been with the U.K. car industry with better management and better trade Union relations?A bonnet that low, with a V12 beneath it?
