I have wondered why so many people often in new SUVs decide to leave a 3 foot gap between them and the parked cars they are passing and a 6 inch gap between their car and mine even though I'm now in the gutter trying to avoid them, if you look at their hands on the wheel there is often a panicked shuffling motion going on.
There are certain drivers so lacking in spatial awareness that to avoid a parked car they'll drive into the path of an oncoming bike/car/truck - on the basis presumably that the bike/car/truck is more likely to move out of their way.
Yep they are in cars that are too wide for their driving ability, giving Betty the keys to a new RAV4 for her 75th birthday was never a good idea, there is probably an element of ADAS alarms at play too, some look mildly terrified hence the frantic shuffling of the wheel.

I enjoyed Harry's video with JC. Nice to watch. I found the body language quite strange though, Harry didnt appear to be that relaxed / comfortable and was moving around, and replying / agreeing in a way we all do when we either not really listening, or thinking about our next sentance. Hard to discribe but I know in certain work situations Ive done the same sort of body language.

Harry is definately more comfortable on his own, hes more relxed etc. However, JC is a god in the car world, has a very sharp sensor of humour so perhaps he felt over shadowed by him.

THe range over video was far more `equal`.
Yes i found the same, especially when Harry said something, Clarkson vaguely disagreed and Harry instantly changed his opinion.

Based on this logic, which seems pretty sound, then something like a 2013 MX5 might become the next 73 RS?

Super reliable, simple, light and peak year?
Ironically peak MX5 is actually the one that is available to buy now. Well the post 2019 Facelift with the 181 BHP engine and strengthened gearbox.

Someone will come along with their modded MX5 with a charger strapped to it but out of the box the ND facelifted generation of MX5 is the best one they have made.

The 'lane keeping assist' in Mrs999's new VDub is switched off under 35mph, is this not the case with all of them?. Above that speed it is very inoffensive as are the 'wine glass taps' when you exceed the limit (which are actually quite useful TBH). I must admit to wondering what all the fuss is about with these systems... maybe people have not adjusted them properly?

My take completely HM looked very odd - a mix of nerves and awkwardness. It has to be remembered Clarkson is a really difficult interviewer. For those with long memories they will recall his cringe worthy attempt at being an interviwer with his own TV show.

I do and it was very disjointed with pauses and silences that bore witness to his poor listening skills. Clarkson loves the sound of his own voice and not much else. I always thought he was better at writing a column (Performance Car - was were I read his schstick first) than being in front of a camera.

I accept I am in a minority.

My daily driver is 24 years old, and the only thing it doesn't have that I'd like is DAB. Radar cruise would be nice, but it has cruise control and speed limiter, so I can work around that.
My daily at the moment is coming up for 36 years old. After upgrading the radio to a new Blaupunkt Bremen it's been a gamechanger for me. DAB, streaming from phones, Sat Nav instructions, connections for USB and SD card along with hands free phone. amongst other features. I'd recommend it highly. I also have cruise control, USB ports, climate control and ABS in a car that looks like nothing you could buy today with one of the most refined engines I've ever experienced. What's not to like smile (Let's just not mention the MPG smile )

My car doesn't have a single DIN and, as yet, nobody makes a wiring adapter for the Bose amp.

Damn, fingers crossed something turns up that'll help before too long. Anyway, I'm sure the other attractions of the car will continue to delight smile

I find Harry's interview technique a bit too respectful, verging on obsequious. I'm not expecting Paxman but, when he meets, say, Gordon Murray or Lord Bamford, he becomes a bit too "fanboi" and almost star-struck for my tastes. I wouldn't want to over-emphasise this though - he's not far from where I think he should be - just a touch more probing and a fraction less agreeing.

I love the rest of his content, though (and I still watch the interviews as the people are interesting).
Steady on old chap, if he starts taking a more robust stance with his occasional “guests” then the invites might dry up to all those premier motoring events!

The Harry/Jezza video was just two mates having the kind of conversation I’d have similarly at any one of the numerous car meets I go to…we don’t need deep, incisive journalism or some great “Aha gotcha” moment in the chat.

My experience is with BMWs system and that's mostly awful it'll steer you into the object you're trying to get around if you don't fight back, adjusting them properly in my book is switching them off.

I did have a Golf Gti for a while and that was annoying as well, nice clear moorland b road that you might want to take advantage of when no one is looking but it would start to steer if you nibbled the white line to straighten out a corner not as bad as a BMW though.

Also not interested in warning lights and bongs because I'm 1-2mph over the limit.

There will be some adapter that could be sorted if you can find a decent audio shop but if not they could just swap out the amp, the manufacturer amp will be pretty basic and there would be an inexpensive upgrade available.

I went to two 'decent' car audio shops and they couldn't help.

It's not worth the effort, given it's only for DAB. The car already has a built-in phone, and I can stream audio from my phone anyway.

Or chin on the tank of my first 125cc coming down the hill on the main road near Stonor Park heading for Henley trying to get it to read 90mph on the speedo - maxing my fastest bike now would do double that and get me in clink biggrin

Long time EVO subscriber and both Harry’s garage and farm viewer

I am struggling a bit with his garage videos over the last year or so - his super cars reviews increasingly leave me cold (perhaps more the vehicles than him) but there is a predictability to it all - I now prefer his road trips and comments on the industry more generally and his vehicle restoration series

The JC and HM chat was fair enough in terms of content (EVs are like white goods has been a theme of several JC Videos) but like some other posters I felt he was a little awkward in JCs company
