He's not the smartest; I was trained on PNC when I worked for the Police many years ago, and there is obviously a record of previous searches.

I'd love to know what access the Police have on our searches via Google etc - their screen showed Messages which I figure might be text messages but interesting none the less to see what they can crawl.

I’m not even a copper and know you’d have to be mad to use the PNC to research someone you later blackmail!

In was thinking the same smile

Still, even knowing it was a copper does not diminish the drama.

All those searches and they say he could have gone all the way?

I always avoid trailers.

The man’s an idiot of the highest order. Glad they caught him, if he’d got away with it he’d defo go on to do more. Bet his wife’s shook up.

He searched for most lucrative crimes then decided £1000 was worth risking his job for ?

That was great TV.

I'm not normally one for praising the Police, far from it, but you have to have a lot of respect for the way they handled that from start to finish, and in particular that they appealed the sentencing and had his sentence doubled. It may have looked like the accused got away with a lighter sentence because of his previous role and good standing. It certainly wouldn't happen in my area, he would most likely be chief superintendent by now.

I suspect a bit more to it than that. Probably the crime least likely to be reported out of all the ones he researched and an amount he thought his victim could “lose”.
He obviously also used his coppers experience to minimise the chance of being caught.
Did he get unlucky with his first attempt? Or had he done it before?

That was my thought, but given the google searches etc I believe this was probably the first one.

Imagine the ‘oh st’ moment when he’s told he’s doing surveillance on the crime he’s committing

I'm guessing his theory was that for the sake of £1000 the victim would just pay up and he could then rinse and repeat.

That was a good one. Felt sorry for him really, they obviously had him on suicide watch when first arrested. Can you imagine the shame and how it must feel to have your world just collapse in on itself like that and know its all your own fault... fk... That said he obviously deserves it.
