"Topical" Comedy on Radio 4
Discussion
Count Arthur Strong gets a transfer to BBC1, with the new series starting on the 6th of Jan.
Cabin Pressure - the last two episodes ever are on R4 this week - 6:30 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The News Quiz - I think Bob Mills is supposed to provide some political balance to the panel - did anyone else catch the icy reaction to his line about the money wasted on windfarms?

What date was that? I'd like to hear it. The News Quiz is pretty hard work when Jeremy Hardy is on, his schtick is very stale. Cabin Pressure - the last two episodes ever are on R4 this week - 6:30 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday.

It was last week I think. It was very noticeable that it went down like a cup of cold sick with the rest of the panel. I'm guessing he won't be invited back.Sometimes the timing of the show really works in its favour. Certainly it meant that they didn't have to mention the Labour "white van man" twitter scandal because as it was the previous Thursday it probably counted as old news.
Phew! No need to mention out of touch, left wing Islington luvvies then.
Now then Jeremy, what are your thoughts?
"Thatcher, miners, Falklands, Hillsborough, Trident, Tories destroying the NHS, bankers, UKIP are all racists and nutters, the police are all corrupt and thugs,
Errr..... Will that do? Where's my cheque? John Lewis accounts don't just pay themselves,"

It's here. You can hear the tumbleweed rolling by from 20m40s.I'll warn you though, the episode features not only Jeremy Hardy but also Mark Steel.
I think last week's Newsquiz was probably the most anti-UKIP thing on the BBC, less so anti-Tory. They do seem to enjoy playing off each other to come up with more and more 'Farage = rascist = homophobe = closet nazi' but then somebody's got to do it...
Regrettably neither the Labour nor LibDems ever step out of line or have outspoken members to ridicule. Or recently deceased ex-leaders who retained their 'good name' until death allowed the truth to be broadcast. Too bad really.

Agree. It was getting very tiresome....
Do the BBC actually employ someone who is NOT a payed up member of Labour?
On a happy note. The last Cabin Pressure first of two parts was on tonight.

Anything that gives the nutjob , little englander and panphobic UKIP a good kicking is just fine by me. More please- because some of us really do not want to live in this daft party's utopia of England 1961.
There are several problems with this; it's really good for drumming up support for UKIP(people love an underdog that's continually being derided by monolithic state entities), it's also derivative, lazy and mostly unfunny, just like 90% of the gags about the 'tory' government. If the News Quiz isn't funny it may as well not exist. Presumably there is a partial hunting ban in place to protect Ed Miliband, as he only gets the knife once a month or so despite being the least effective opposition leader since Neil Kinnock.Smiler. said:
God almighty, yet another UKIP bashing on R4 now. The premise of comedy is that it actually has to have a scintilla of something amusing.
I've had kidney infections that have been funnier than this.
As ridiculous as UKIP area, I heard that "Nigel Farage Britpop" thing and would have put a knitting needle through my eardrums had one been available, it was dire. Someone gets paid to come up with that st!I've had kidney infections that have been funnier than this.

Now I love the "Now Show" but last night episode annoyed me due to guests SHOUTING!!!!!!
Rick Hall is good, but why did he have to wander off from the mic and start shouting, + the lady later on also shouting down it.
Very annoying
Who did she bribe to get on? That segment was awful.Rick Hall is good, but why did he have to wander off from the mic and start shouting, + the lady later on also shouting down it.
Very annoying

It is really tired and predictable. Time it was scrapped. Rick Hall is good, but why did he have to wander off from the mic and start shouting, + the lady later on also shouting down it.
Very annoying
