This week's News Quiz has prompted me to revisit this thread (and post on the Things That Annoy You Beyond Reason thread).

One of the panellists this week was Kemah Bob, who I had never heard of until this week's show.

What she said may have been funny, but I found it impossible to get beyond her fantastically annoying voice. From about 2:20 in: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0004mds

I was intending to start a "Most annoying voice on the radio" thread about her but you've beaten me to it - what an intensely irritating sound she makes!

Agreed, that surreal, drawling, squeaking accented voice was exceedingly hard work. I gave up to run my fingernails over a blackboard while listening to a randy tomcat squawking.

Wasn’t even funny, just the usual Trump is a baboon stuff.

Glad it wasn't just me. Turned off after 10 minutes.

Found myself listening to any of the BBC radio channels less and less now.

It wasn't.

The only person who's come close to her irritation level , and possibly even eclipsed it, was London Hughes (who?) on RHLSTP last week. She's on a whole other level of self-aggrandisement. The only podcast of Herring's that I've come close to switching off.

Jeee-Bus that was hard work.

Also 'Just a Minute' last week coming from India, Briggstock was on the panel - I gave up after the first round.

Miles is leaving at the end of May.

I love his subtle delivery and hosting with the occasional acerbic comment.

Oh dear - that is a shame, he really did suit that show well.

Any idea on who is replacing him?

Shame he's going, with most of the guests they had on, he was the only thing that made it almost tolerable,

I've been binging on podcasts and while I sometimes find some aspects of the News Quiz annoying, her voice just dialed it up to 11 - I wasn't sure if it was just me... I actually fast forwarded every time she spoke...

Have they been messing about with iPlayer Sounds?

When I go to the comedy section most of the usual programs are missing - even if I do 'sort by latest'..

Heard an episode of lobby land on 4extra. Apparently it is the second series. Although I have somehow managed to miss it. I thought it was pretty good.

Oh dear what a steaming pile of poo the Now Show has become. frown
I have hundred of the previous episodes that bear repeat listening, but the one last night won't be being added to my collection..

An unfunny male climate change research comedian and two unfunny women plus
two dire male musician/comedians..

Shouting into the microphone or tapping it does not mean something becomes funny.

Not so much as a titter raised.

What happened to Laura Chavin and the other regulars.. frown

They ran out of ideas as the Mary Whitehouse experience expired. It’s tired, predictable and as funny as a wasp sting.

They don’t know if they are pro or anti establishment, Need replacing.

Yep, it's been pretty poor for a while now.

The monologue at the beginning has become .... self-satisfied, as though Punt can't quite believe the brilliance of his biting satire.

Yet the classics such as Just A Minute and I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue continue to deliver. The News Quiz we shall have to wait and see who the new compere is; Miles Jupp was an inspired choice.

Of the newer shows, Dead Ringers and The Unbelievable Truth are always enjoyable, but even they aren't really "new" anymore. Much of the truly new stuff in that slot I have found pretty terrible.

Bring back Mitch Benn; there's a dearth of portly middle-aged brummies with a fetish for strange stringed instruments on R4 comedy programmes, so he's now a minority.

I should have believed in the wisdom of Pistonheads, I think they found a new low with the Now Show. The guests were all particularly poor, I'd have thought as Edinburgh was on it would have been easy to find talent.
